About the Author

John Mayfield received his real estate license in 1978 and has earned the ABR®, ABRM, GRI, and e-PRO® designations. A featured speaker at the Better Homes and Gardens Convention, John is the 2003 Technology Chairman for the Missouri Association of REALTORS®, and has served on many local and state committees and task forces for the REALTOR® organization. He currently serves on the Missouri Association of REALTORS® GRI staff. John has served as local board president twice, and has been awarded REALTOR-ASSOCIATE® of the Year and REALTOR® of the Year from his local board.

John Mayfield received his real estate license at the age of 18 in 1978. John has been a practicing broker since 1981 and he owns and operates three offices in Southeast Missouri, and manages over 35 real estate agents. John has taught pre and post license real estate courses since 1988. John has earned the ABR', ABRM, CRB, GRI, and e-PRO' designations throughout his real estate tenure.

John is an avid real estate speaker and trainer. John is a GRI instructor for The Missouri Association of REALTORS' and the Arkansas Association of REALTORS' and teaches for the CRB' Council. John has spoken to thousands of real estate professionals throughout his tenure. He has been a featured speaker at the 2004 and 2005 National Association of REALTORS' conventions. He is author of three books and creator of the '5-Minutes Series for Real Estate Agents.' '5-Minutes to a Great Real Estate Sales Meeting,' '5-Minutes to a Great Real Estate Letter' and '5-Minutes to a Great Real Estate Ad,' by Thomson Learning, and co-author of 'Effective Real Estate Sales and Marketing' with Johnnie Rosenauer published by Thomson Learning. John is also one of the contributing editors to the 'Sales Coach' section for REALTOR' Magazine Online, and is a real estate writer for Hewlett Packard's Web Site. John is also very active on a local, state and national level for the REALTORS' Association. John is also a NAR Director for the state of Missouri.


John has two children, Alyx and Anne, and he and his wife Kerry own and operate a 'Pick Your Own' Blueberry and Blackberry farm in Farmington, MO.

This is an excellent book for both new & experienced real estate agents. The letters sound intelligent and professional, and they're informative without being either too informal or sounding stilted. The CD included with the book was especially helpful, because you can just download all the letters onto your computer & personalize them with your own information or make changes. Real estate agents are too busy to have to re-invent the wheel every time they need to write a professional-sounding letter. These are GREAT templates. Highly recommended.

This book has been quite helpful for me in writing letters that sound so professional, but like I wrote them myself. Sure saves the brain alot of time on trying to construct a personal but professional letter.

I was very disappointed the second I got this book and cracked it open. I purchased it because I considerd myself a poor letter writer and wanted new fresh creative ideas. These sames and mostly very short, seemed shallow, unfinished, and are very simple and elementary. As for me. this was a waste of money. I am obviously much more creative than I thought and would never send a client a letter with 4-5 short sentences.
