This review is from: Five in the Morning (Audio CD)
The latest of Hazel's masterpieces as good as ever - Her style continues to develop demonstrating her magnificent vocal range - a long way from Breaking Glass, Sons and Lovers and Cover Plus Days but still a fantastic collection of wonderful songs

Soulful CD from "Breaking Glass" star,
By A Customer
This review is from: Five in the Morning (Audio CD)
OK, so maybe this CD is not "Breaking Glass". "Breaking Glass" was such a phenomenal album that I don't know if Hazel O'Connor could repeat it. I first heard of her in 1987, seven years after, apparently, she was a star in England, so I don't really know what happened, but I surmise that she was unable to repeat the power of "Breaking Glass" and so her stardom faded. But let's get back to this CD. If you like "Breaking Glass" you're sure to like this album too. Hazel is older, maybe less angry (she's not threatening to kick anyone in the ass on this one), maybe more religious and introspective (talks to God about helping her get rid of her prejudice; in another song, says that a friend she has not seen for a while reminds her of Shirley MacLaine). I'm giving this CD three stars with the recommendation that you give it a listen; I may rate it even higher with time.

EXCELLENT SMOKEY PUNK-JAZZ!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Five in the Morning (Audio CD)
Hazel O'Connor has gone from early 80's punk/new wave goddess, to dark and dreamy Cabaret-style soul singer. This current batch of songs showcases her Stevie Nicks style voice and proves how powerful and deep her introspective lyrics are. This is the perfect CD to put on and relax to -- or even to listen to on a rainy day stuck in the house. CHECK IT OUT!!!
