Christian parenting instructor Hutchcraft uses a breezy motivational style in an inspirational guide to raising children who will be protected against worldly temptations because their deepest needs are met at home. In his view, providing children with a secure sense of self, honest answers to questions about sex, unconditional love, stable authority, and a spiritual relationship with God will enable them to successfully negotiate the challenges of contemporary society. Although most parents would acknowledge that an approach to parenting that emphasizes building self-esteem, openly discussing male and female sexuality, freely expressing love, and informally discussing religion is good, Hutchcraft's social analysis, frequent use of metaphorical slogans, and focus on the Bible may not appeal to those unaccustomed to those methods of making points. Parents who appreciate such a Christian style of presentation, however, will find that this thoughtful, practical handbook has much sage advice to offer.
