5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY!
It took forever for this soundtrack to come out on CD. WHY? It's one of the best around, EVER. Next to Beethoven's 9th, The Five Penny Saints is one of the BEST things ever written. Just my humble opinion... DON'T miss it! Now, if we could just the rest of Danny's movies out on DVD, we'd be set!

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS.
Warning --under no circumstances buy this new reissue of this classic gorgeous soundtrack. The one which has just come out with "original recording" is the one I am talking about on Hallmark. Dont buy it. Its improperly recorded on a very cheap label. This is not the proper soundtrack that came out with notes and perfectly remixed about five or six years ago on CD, this...

5.0 out of 5 stars My cd collection is now complete!, March 3, 2004

It's here, it's here! I was in the record store, browsing...had earphones on and ....there it was right in front of me the holy grail of cd's - the five pennies soundtrack! I almost did not go to the movie I went to see so I could listen to it..but I waited and did and it is as wonderful as when I heard it on vinyl. Get this, hear Louis Armstrong at his best, some great Dixieland Jazz...enjoy!

I don't know how many times I saw this movie growing up..it was probably my first exposure to jazz...louis is great, and frankly so is danny kaye....the five pennies and red nichols are superb...this is very upbeat jazz....I have anticipated it's release for some time now and I'm not disappointed.....a lot of great horn all around

5.0 out of 5 stars Danny Kaye Rules!, October 30, 2002
By A Customer

I hope this is released on CD. Danny Kaye is a lost talent. I just bought the CD for Hans Christian Anderson/Court Jester and have worn it out... it would be great to purchase this one as well.

Thank you Decca Records for the CD release of this great soundtrack. I have been waiting for 20 years, the record has been unavailable for years. I Give this CD 5 stars plus, if you are in to 1930'jazz this record is for you. Danny Kaye and Louis Armstrong are great the music is well recorded [1959]. I Hope a DVD is issued in the near future.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Warning --under no circumstances buy this new reissue of this classic gorgeous soundtrack. The one which has just come out with "original recording" is the one I am talking about on Hallmark. Dont buy it. Its improperly recorded on a very cheap label. This is not the proper soundtrack that came out with notes and perfectly remixed about five or six years ago on CD, this is a bargain basement version and its AWFUL. I would send it back and ask for my money back from Amazon except for the cheap cost its not worth it. Anyone who knows this soundtrack and listens to it will know what I mean. It is 3 MINUTES LONGER than the original CD release for good reason, all the tracks have been slightly slowed down.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????? I have never come across anything like this before. Danny Kaye sounds totally different. Also the music all sounds slightly off pitch as a result. If Amazon is concerned and serious about their customers or what they sell, they will take it off the market immediately. Go for the original recording, it should not even be on this page with the letters from customers as they are all based on the earlier version. Believe me, DO NOT BUY IT

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD!, February 6, 2005
This review is from: Five Pennies (Audio CD)
It's great this wonderful music has been released on CD. The music was all arranged by Red's arrangers of the 40's & 50's - clarinetist Heinie Beau and pianist Bobby Hammack. And the great Alexander Courage (of Star Trek Theme fame) wrote the opening "Main Title" track. This is one of the best musical movies of all-time. I'm one of the top 3 Nichols' collectors in the world. I own most of the music from the movie & perform it with my band in the Midwest. It's such "happy music" as Red himself described it, and Louis Armstrong & Danny Kaye have never sounded better!
