My daughter is 18mo. old and loves this book. She delights in the rhyming of the story and trys to sing along to the song at the end. Its a really cute book and is age appropriate for 18mo. and older.

Well, shiny, dull, whatever - our little boy, nearly 8 months, adores this book. It is one of his favorites to touch & look at - and captures 100% of his attention when read to him. It was one of grandma's books for visiting grandchildren - but when she saw my son's reaction to the story - and music - she insisted he have it. (i like it too)

PS: The mechanism for playing the song appears to be light sensitive. If you open the final page in a dark room, it will not play.....

I love the words in this book. It is sing-songy and cute. Unfortunately it plays twinkle twinkle at the end.

The musical bit stinks because:

1 - it works intermittently. sometimes no music at all...
2 - when it does work, the music starts before you can read the last page and finish the story.
3 - the music is so fast so you have to speed-sing twinkle twinkle, which is not very relaxing as a bedtime song.

I hope the music recording breaks soon so it doesn't interfere.

Lastly, we picked this book because my 6 month old son LOVES shiny things. Well the stars are silver and NOT shiny.

But the words are still darling and it has a cat in it (bonus points).

My son is 5 and still loves this book; he first saw it at daycare when he was 1 and loved it. When i saw it at the store, I bought it and he adored it in his toddler years. He still pulls it out every once in awhile (he looks for it specifically). He cried when the music didn't work one night and I then searched these reviews to find out that the music sensor was light sensitive. The smile on his face when I pulled out the flashlight and made the song work was the highlight of my day. Thank you to those who posted here about how the music works!

Great book. My little girl loves this book and the song it plays on the last page is always a treat for her!

I received my first one and the spine was spit n two so I returned it and received a new one. This one is cute but the song at the end only works haf the time. The book also does not hold up well. Too bad.

My daughter is 2 1/2 and she has loved this book since she was 1. We had the same problem with the song playing sometimes and not playing other times. I just read the review about it being light sensitive and tested it - it seems to be true. Glad to know what the problem was! I would definitely recommend this book!

My son loves this book. The only negative is there is some sort of mechanism that pays "twinkle twinkle little star" and sometimes it does no work. And it is not the type that you can replace a battery in.

My little guy, under 2, loves the music part. Although, I do wish that I had control over when the music plays.

Little Scholastic Books have been such a hit with our little 8 month old. We own four books. This is the least favorite. The title should be "Five Dull Grey Stars" The lack of texture throughout the book is one thing, the lack of bright colors and the SHINY is just NOT SHINY. All in all, the little 10 second music sound playing "twinkle twinkle little star" at the end- is not nearly enough to hold the baby's interest.
