Harry (Harriet) is only a month away from her wedding when Lissy Woodfin, a distraught southern belle, shows up claiming to be Elija Kelly's sister and needing his help as she is fleeing her abusive husband and his hired thugs. Escorting her to Battlement Park, Harry doubts her story, but when they arrive, inn owner Anthony Wayne and Malachi Kelly agree to accompany the duplicitous blond beauty to Denver to tell the husband to cease and desist. A wild search for Charm Woodfin takes the quartet into brothels and other unseemly establishments even as they're pursued by a sadistic trio who will go to any lengths to stop them. Featuring two romances in one novel, this is a surefire winner for fans of westerns and historical romances because Pendergrass creates believable characters and nicely rendered settings. In 1878 Harriet Jackson has been in love with Elijah Kelly forever, but he married Jordan Braddock. Stunned and dismayed, Harriet becomes engaged to Colorado's number one bachelor, wealthy Ash Brady. Her doubts about her future relationship rise as the ceremony gets closer. She wonders whether the groom will ever love the real Harriet or is he fulfilling an obligation with a societal trophy especially since he openly condemns her family?

Elizabeth "Lissy" Woodfin arrives in the Wyoming Territory seeking Elijah and his brother former Captain Malachi Kelly of the Seventh Cavalry to help her. Malachi wants nothing to do with the only woman he ever loved, but cannot resist helping her especially when "Harry" also comes to enlist his aid. As they share an adventure, Malachi wonders why he thought of Harriet as his pal Harry because he is falling in love with the woman who once worshipped his sibling.

Americana romance readers will relish COLORADO SUNRISE, a tale that emphasizes loyalty especially to loved one and friends even when the individual risks all they cherish to help. The characters make the plot as the key players come across fully developed, pushing the romance into a backseat yet turning the growing love between Malachi and Harriet into a beautiful realistic story line. Tess Pendergrass provides a delightful charmer with the third Colorado trilogy novel.
