Remarkable Woman, Remarkable Life,

This review is from: Five of Us: A Handful (Hardcover)
BettyJane spent much of her childhood in an orphanage, and thanks to "Little Orphan Annie" United States culture has existing perceptions about the meaning of that. This book gives an accurate description of her experiences, and includes memories from the life of BettyJane and her siblings. The family faced many challenges and milestone blessings from the Great Depression to the dawn of the 21st Century. Some found amazing inner strength, far beyond what we have to call upon in daily life. Sometimes life's challenges are beyond coping.
Writing style is from the point of view of herself at whatever age of the memory, so sometimes the storyteller is a child or a teenager. Although this is non-traditional and maybe even unrefined, I enjoyed it. It pulled me further into the story, like I was watching it happen, or "getting into the mind" of the narrator. It also kept it fun and light. A quick read for a rainy day. return to the book:[...] |
