I bought these because my hiking shoes were slipping on the wet rocks in SoCal canyons. The first time I wore them in a canyon I was absolutely amazed at their stick to rocks. I felt very solid on wet and slick rock. They were also very comfortable right out of the box.

I bought these shoes for my 14 yr old son, that had seen a show on the five ten products for climbing... He fell in love with the idea, although they cost a bit more than I wanted to pay, they have proven to be very a durable shoe. He is VERY rough on shoes we go thru about 4 pair or more in a single school year. They have also been right on size and he says they are very very comfortable..

I originally bought these for climbing in the tetons, since they bridge the gap well between rock climbers and hiking shoes, but since then I've used them as my default shoes whenever I go off road.
I don't mind taking them traveling, since they can pass for cross trainers, i guess. They have one of the best gripping soles I've seen in a shoes. Rock hopping on a sea shore I felt totally comfortable, whereas my companions kept slipping. Rock climbing, they do well, although they are probably too bulky for very technical climbing. I've never had any fit problems with them, except.. for some reason.. on planes. Sitting on a plane wearing this shoes for more than a couple of hours turns my toes numb. This never happens if I'm standing or walking, so it must be something having to do with the lacing or the toe box. But in general, i kick them off when I'm going to be sitting on the plane for hours. Maybe one day I'll figure out the best way to lace them. Speaking of laces, they can be adjusted for different applications... You can tighten the toe box for rock climbing, or relax it for hiking. Sure beats carrying two pairs of shoes.

Great for hiking rocky trails,

Very comfortable and supportive low hiker. I am amazed how well these stick to rocks, dry or wet! If you have often on rocks, or rocky trails I don't think there is anything better. the Stealth rubber soles have better grip than my Asolo low hiking shoes, and my leather hiking boots. They are very well made and durable. The torsional rigidity of the shoe is very impressive, and that helps on rough trails.

"FiveTen's Camp Four Hiking Shoe" is a rugged, comfortable walking shoe, good for a variety of walking surfaces. The thick sole, exo-heel cup, and rubberized toe bumpers provide good protection. The lacing system allows a good fit. The shoe is a low-quarter cut with padded ankles, and the shoe skin seems water resistent. This reviewer has found them more than adequate for three-season use in Alaska.
"FiveTen's Camp Four Hiking Shoe" is highly recommended for walking in the great outdoors.

I tend to prefer outdoor, comfortable shoes to work and have tried trail shoes, running shoes, and hiking boots. Discovered these because I first thought the looked cool, but then after wearing them around the store, discovered they were the most comfortable shoes I'd ever worn. This is my 3rd pair and I just purchased 2 more "backups" to put on the top shelf of my closet - in case they stop making them!

Disappointing approach shoes,

On paper these shoes have a lot going for them, such as the strong toe box and 'supportive' heel cage. However, on the hills it's a different story. Certainly the toe box does its job well, but it's about the only thing that does. They're so heavy that you'd probably be better off with a pair of lightweight hiking boots or choosing one of the much lighter competitor approach/trail shoes. The sticky rubber is a fallacy, I found that the lack of traction rendered them incapable of doing their specified job. They are undoubtably comfortable as long as you don't paln on going too far in them and I certainly wouldn't recommend taking them anywher wet as the upper is agonizingly slow to dry. However, I've saved the worst 'til last; the build quality is appaling. After only a few months (less than six) of very light wear (not many genuine 'appoaches'), the soles are already coming off and the supposedly supportive heel cage has come away from the uppers, rendering this theoretically good idea useless. Spend your hard earned cash on one of the infinitely better products on the market; these shoes suck!

I purchased the shoe after i saw a tv show that reported on Stealth Rubber technology. So far the shoe has been good. The comfort, support and traction are the characteristics I wanted.
