I would recommend these shoes for any downhiller/freerider. Stick to the pedals like glue. You almost feel clipped in with these shoes. You have to actually pick your foot up off the pedal to reposition them. Sticks to the pedals over huge jumps, rock gardens, turns, and anything else like a pro. Must be why the pros use these shoes.

These shoes are fantastic. Got them for all-mountain / downhill biking as I use flat pedals and need something sticky as well as beefy enough to protect my feet.
They are working very well. My only issue is that I should have ordered 1/2 size down from what I usually get. My toes are swimming in the deep end. Also pretty warm. I'm sure I'll enjoy that once winter comes... but until then. SWEAT!

Great traction, strange design,

As far as traction is concerned these get a 5 star rating. They are unreal and stick to all of the pedals I have used. These include the original pedals on a 2005 Gary Fisher Marlin, a 2010 Gary Fisher Wahoo Disc, 2005 Trek 4300, and a few other cruise style bikes. They work best with the new pedals I have (DMR v12).
The fit is a lot different than anything I have worn on my feet. The tongue is not normal. I don't know how to explain it but it is not attached to a shoe normally. It is attached to the outer park of the shoe, on one side. I don't know if they explains it but that is the best I can do. Quality wise, I have not had a problem but need more rides on trails before I can say if they are good or not. So far after 5-10 rides they have not been a problem. I have not used them in wet or bad weather either. Overall, they are great mountain biking shoes for those who do not want to be clipless. However, the strange design may turn some people off. true to size (at least for my misshaped feet)

Outstanding performance every time from FiveTen, without a doubt this is the stickiest sole you will find when running flat pedals like the Kona Wah Wah's. Although I'm not clipped in this as close as you can get to mimicking the feel of using clipless pedals. The styling on these shoes is very nice and the refractive parts of the shoe really pop in photos. The protection is great on these and are very confidence inspiring when coupled with the gripping power of the shoe.If you are looking for a water proof shoe look elsewhere as these will definitely leak water through the large easy access slit on the side. However if you are looking for the best summer shoe around for any extreme sport that requires you have the locked in feeling of being clipped in but the ability to bail from your bike/board if need be... You have found the best around. For a little more protection check out the impact high's.

I was hesitant to buy shoes just for mountain biking since I have a whole collection of skate shoes and hiking shoes at my disposal. They are also not the most fashionable shoes in my collection either so they will only serve me for one purpose. I usually go mtb with my Columbia low cut hiking shoes which grip my xpeedo faceoffs pretty well and give me a nice flex. I know I could have gone the clip-less route but after hearing stories of my cousin's friends falling off a ledges on single tracks because he froze and did not clip out in time I decided to stay with flat pedals. My columbia shoes worked pretty well through its run, but when I needed to bunny hop over something, they would fail by slipping and cause the pedal to come up and hit my shin. This happened several times to the point where I just bought shin guards (which I should have bought in the first place). So after reading the rave reviews on mtbr.com about these shoes, and how it was rated as one of the best shoes I decided to go ahead and buy them. When I rode it the first time I already felt the grip of the stealth rubber on my xpeedos, they simply will not let go, I am an agressive rider so I put a lot of weight on my bottom bracket and these shoes help keep my weight there. I have yet to be bucked off while in the attack position wearing these shoes. They also grip well when I do bunny hops, though there is the ocasional slips , but they are rare. They work so well that I cant make micro adjustments when I ride. I have to physically lift my feet up and place them down to the position I want them in. One day when I was adjusting my derailleurs, I was wearing my chucks and when I wanted to test the shifting on my bike, The chucks are still pretty new, I felt how weak the chuck's grip was compared to the Impacts.I highly recommend these shoes for the avid mountain biker who does not want to make the switch to clip-less.

They are great shoes. But the sizing chart is ridiculous. I wear a 10.5 US. I ordered a 11.5 US and it felt like a 9.5 narrow. Now I'm out $10 in shipping, even with Amazon prime to return them.

I bought these shoes to ride my MTB with flat pedals because many reviewed them as being super sticky. They are sticky but not close to the power I get from wearing SPD Clipless shoes and SPD pedals. I really like wearing these shoes. They are very comfortable, well made and look great. They were bought for biking but are used for work. If you ride with SPD pedals and enjoy the power stick with SPD shoes. If you ride with flat pedals and enjoy the freedom you can not go wrong with these shoes. They are solid and great for off the bike. If you buy them you will keep them.

If you ride a mountain bike or freeride bike on flat pedals (clipless), then you need these shoes. There is nothing comes close to the grip of these shoes.

Bulky shoe, seems well made, but the soles are not that sticky as advertised. My dress shoes give a better grip than these (I had to wear my dress shoes when I forgot to bring these)!
