5.0 out of 5 stars Bridget's Review
I just got into cooking a couple of years ago. Before that I preferred to eat out because I didn't have time or the confidence to make a meal at home. Now, I have taken a total 180. I would much rather spend time perfecting my own meals and now, when we go to a restaurant, I'm like "I could make this better". So what's my secret? I turn to what I call my "Cookbooks...

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow Christmas, November 4, 2010
This review is from: Fix-it and Forget-it Christmas Cookbook: 600 Slow Cooker Holiday Recipes (Paperback)
This is the usual fix it and forget it book with the exception that it includes recipes for creating the smells of Christmas using lemon, orange, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and bay leaves, leaving this to simmer it will make your house smell wonderful. Some of the recipes are named for Christmas such as Christmas meatloaf which includes a cranberry sauce, Christmas apple date pudding, Christmas wassail or Rudolph's nose wild rice; other than that many if not most of these recipes are what are in the other fix it and forget it books.
There are the usual tips for using slow cookers, substituting ingredients. Recipes included are: appetizers, snacks and spreads, breakfast and brunch, main dishes, vegetables, beverages, desserts and sweets.

If you do not already have one or two fix it and forget it books this would make a good addition to your cookbook collection, but if you already do, you will probably be getting duplicates of recipes you already have

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, January 30, 2011

I was disappointed by the number of recipes which required just the tipping of pre-cooked cans into the slow cooker. Surely one of the big benefits of a slow cooker is that you can cook dried beans, etc "from scratch" easily rather than using cans. The same applies to all the recipes that called for the addition of cans of cream-of-chicken soup and so on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bridget's Review, December 1, 2010
I just got into cooking a couple of years ago. Before that I preferred to eat out because I didn't have time or the confidence to make a meal at home. Now, I have taken a total 180. I would much rather spend time perfecting my own meals and now, when we go to a restaurant, I'm like "I could make this better". So what's my secret? I turn to what I call my "Cookbooks For Dummies". The step by step directions are so easy that anyone can make the perfect meal. The Fix-It and Forget-It Christmas Cookbook has become my bible in the kitchen. It contains all the recipes you could ever need, for any occasion. Appetizers, entrees, snacks, deserts, it's all there. The Holiday Spinach and Artichoke Dip is amazing! One thing I really love about this book is that you can make little changes and have exactly what you want at that moment. I made Chicken Tortellini Soup instead of using sausage and it was phenomenal! I love this book! It would make the perfect present for the holidays.

This cook book is filled with quite a few (600 recipes). Most of the recipes have come from the other books of slow cookers, fix it and forget it books, etc. So if you have those books no need to buy this book. If you don't have those this is a great book to buy and don't buy the others.

Have quite a few Fix-it and Forget-it cookbooks and think this one might be my most favorite of all! I even bought another slow cooker, so that I had two for my Christmas cooking last year. The recipes are great and really cut back on the time and effort holiday cooking requires. These recipes will be worked into my every day cooking and not saved just for the holidays!

This is my fifth "Fix It and Forget It" cookbook and in my opinion you can't give these books a high enough rating!!! Guaranateed 5 Star+++ everytime. Well written, well organized -- there's something for everybody. This was a gift for one of my daughters but I couldn't wait 'til Christmas to give it to her, then ordered the children's "Fix It....." for one of her daughters. Three generations of "Fix Its" in the household.

my health isnt the greatest, and i can sit down and do most of the work. i love this book. i never really knew how to cook in a crockpot before. my family would only get a good meal from me about once a week. i saw this from a friend , that she got for a christmas gift. i borrowed it for a week. i am in so awe of it. i had to order from amazon right away for my own copy. i have since looked at other crockpot recipe books and have not purchased any. this is the best one on the market in my opinion. i have been able to try so many recipes thus far. i feel like a good wife and mom again , that i am able to cook more often and with such ease. thankyou so much.
