5.0 out of 5 stars I Love This Cook Book
I always enjoy reviewing a cookbook, but when I come across one as outstanding as this one is the joy is doubled.
Author Phyllis Pellman Good, with The American Diabetes Association, has compiled a book filled with recipes for diabetics that you make in a slow cooker. Yes, you read that correct, what a great idea for use in our busy lives.

3.0 out of 5 stars Incomplete Nutritional Information
The authors have the nutritional values calculated for as many as 20 servings yet fail to provide the serving sizes. They have to figure out the size of a serving to calculate the information, so why not include that with the recipe so we, who must count our carbohydrates for insulin purposes for example, don't have to dirty dishes to dish out the entire crock pot...

Let me tell you this is no small work, but is absolutely packed full of page after page of wonderful recipes to plop in your slow cooker, walk away and come back to a delicious meal or desert.
Yes, again you heard me correct, there are page after page of deserts that you can make in your slow cooker and all will be loved, not only by those with diabetes, but the entire family. From main dishes to deserts, this book brings the entire family together with recipes that allow you to easily make an entire meal that can be eaten by every member of the family.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough; this is definitely one that should be in every home.
Healthy for every member of the family and delicious too, how can you beat that? Outstanding work.

This book contains slow-cooker recipes complete with exchange list values, and information on fat, calories, cholesterol, fiber, sugars, protein, and just about anything else you would want to know in order to prepare a nutritious meal that takes minimal time out of your busy schedule. 5.0 out of 5 stars Super-quick, super-easy, and super-tasty dishes, April 10, 2005
Until new diabetes cookbooks have focused more on recipes for the disease than an easy method of cooking such as the slow cooker: enter Phyllis Pellman Good with slow cooker favorites especially geared to the diabetic in Fix-It And Forget-It Diabetic Cookbook. Dishes range from a savory Lemon Garlic Chicken to soups, bean dishes and more. Super-quick, super-easy, and super-tasty dishes the diabetic can't complain about.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dishes High in Carbs!, April 9, 2009
Though the dishes look "yummy" most are very high in carbs. As a "Diabetic" cookbook, I was expecting dishes low (as well as very low) in carbs. The very first recipe my eyes landed on has 43 carbs per serving and only 3 grams of fiber. Yikes! I have another book by the same author, Fix It and Forget It Lightly, and most of the recipes are exactly the same with dietary exchanges added. I'm really sorry I spent money on this book. If you need to be careful with carb intake, skip this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slow Cooker Revival, March 18, 2007
As my diabetes has become a serious health issue, I came to the conclusion that what I needed were some simple, easy to fix, recipes that would fit my schedule and my budget. This book answers to all my needs. I was so impressed with the concise and clear instructions that I found I had every size slow cooker except the most popular, the 4 quart. Since I had been admiring a red one in our local all purpose department store, I was able to get it and complete the sizes to make the recipes for the intended size. That is one thing I really liked about this book; it said what size slow cooker to use for optimum prep time. It also explained why certain foods were good, even though high in carbs. Great investment!

3.0 out of 5 stars Superflous material, March 10, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I did not realize when I purchased this book, after a diagnosis of diabetes, that the recipes were the same as many that were in the original 'Slow Cooker Cookbook'. Had I known that, I would not have needed this one, as I know and use the other and have sent it for gifts. If one is unacquainted with the series, this is a good book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Encourages poor health habits, April 7, 2009

If you're diabetic you want to bring your cholesterol down so you don't want to have tons of meat and fat as this book suggests. Also, many of the recipes contain sugar or sugar substitute which are extremely bad for diabetics. I am shocked that this book was published by the American Diabetic Society. People need to eat well and healthily, exercise and bring the weight down. I would suggest if you're diabetic, you do some research on your own unless your doctor is pretty progressive. There's a lot of great books out there but this isn't one of them in my opinion.

This book has lots of nice recipes. Unfortunately, most have way too many carbs for my diabetes. I need a really low-carb cookbook, but unfortunately, this isn't it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Diabetic Cooks or Diabetic Consumer?, July 12, 2007
This book has varied recipes but to call it a diabetic cookbook is misleading. The majority of recipes would not pass muster for low GI meals within a diabetic's range. Perhaps it is a cookbook for people who are diabetic to cook for those who are not!
