Consequently, the color pink, which universally denotes awareness of the disease that kills more than 40,000 American women each year, appears on every page. The opening section of this welcoming and brimming volume features recipes and moving stories from women active in the movement. Eloise Caggiano, the program director for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, for example, shares her family recipe for pot roast with gingersnap gravy and talks about how she was diagnosed with the disease at age 33. These early pages also present sobering information, such as the fact that 43 percent of breast-cancer patients skip treatments because they can’t afford them. Good correctly notes that weight gain can increase breast-cancer risk, but that doesn’t preclude put-on-the-pounds ingredients in some of the book’s more than 700 easy slow-cooker recipes. Among the decadent but comforting dishes are seven-layer bars made with sweetened condensed milk. Of course, there are plenty of healthy recipes, from Chunky Vegetable Chili to Autumn Chicken and Veggies, Squash Casserole, and Wild Mushrooms Italian. This is another in the line of fix it and forget it books. $1.00 will be given to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to a minimum of $100,000 for every book sold. The first 67 pages have words from breast cancer survivors and recipes from them. Tips are included to reduce the risk for breast cancer and advances in breast cancer are gone over, with ways to make a difference in your community. There are tips for buying and using a slow cooker.
There are very few pictures of recipes, most are set up in black and white columns like other fix it and forget it books.

These are not the healthy or organic recipes many advocate for good wellbeing, but old fashioned slow cooking recipes. Many of the recipes are repeats from other books in this line. Recipes include; appetizers, snacks and spreads, breakfast foods, breads, soups, stews and chili, main dishes, vegetables, desserts and beverages. There is an excellent equivalent chart, from scratch replacement recipes like, cream of mushroom soup and homemade cornbread mix. An index is included.

Our family has enjoyed Mom's rice pudding, sausage and scalloped potato supper, supreme sausage dish, Mulligan stew, and extra good mashed potatoes.
This is a nice cookbook for hearty slow cooker meals and fare, especially if you do not have any of the other fix it and forget it books.

This cookbook claims to have more than 700 recipes, but has only a fraction in reality. There are multiple recipes for the same thing, but because they were all submitted by different people, they're all included. There are only a few photos, so for anyone who is more of a visual cook, you may be disappointed by that. I'm not really sure how often I'll use this book, and feel at least a little better about having spent the money since some of it supports a good cause.

This book has really helped me start to love my slow cooker that I previously had little experience with. There are tons of recipes to try for all kinds of meals, and if you are going to a cookout, this is THE recipe book for baked beans in a slow cooker. I couldn't believe how many there were. I cooked mostly from the breakfast and chicken chapters and have yet to hit upon ones that I really liked and will make again, but the recipes are simple enough to encourage me to keep trying.

The main problem I keep running into is the cooking times. The ranges listed in the book end up being either too short or too long, but I guess every slow cooker is different. I feel like I would know better if I had more experience with my sow cooker.

Also, the directions can be deceptively simple. Sometimes, steps that need to be written out are not and multiple steps are put into one step to make the recipe appear easier or faster than it is.

The recipes in here are written and submitted by breast cancer survivors, so they are more on the amateur side, and I think I would do better with them if I was more experienced in using my slow cooker. I will keep trying recipes from this and other books until I figure it out!

I just purchased the Kindle edition of this cookbook. I usually only purchase the cookbooks under $3.00 but when I noticed this book supported breast cancer I decided I would support this cause as my daughter is a 4 year survivor. Well I am the real winner here! These recipes are wonderful and the stories are an extra bonus. Thank you for so much packed into one book. I noticed the only walk close to Michigan is Chicago. I wish Michigan would get involved too. Thank you! Thank you! My husband can't wait for the bread pudding treat.
