Writing a book was number one on Mari's bucket list and on her thirty-fourth birthday, she set out to see that goal achieved. Now her computer is jammed full of stories -- novels, novellas, short stories and dead-ends. A New York Times and USA Today bestseller as well as winner of the Passionate Plume, Mari found time for writing by squeezing it into the hours between 3 a.m. and daybreak when her family is asleep and the house is quiet. I decided to pick this book up this past weekend because I was in the mood for a quick read before diving into deeper books where I'm prepared to be gutted. Of course, I didn't expect to have this book affect me so much either. Fix You, while a novella, doesn't feel at all rushed or lacking when it comes to story development - or emotional appeal. It's moving, sad, uplifting, and sexy.

Fix You is the story of Zoey, a 35 year old paralegal, ready to start the new year right - she's going to FINALLY tell her best friend of 25 years/roommate that she's in love with him. And that she's basically always been. Then she finds out she has breast cancer. When she calls Robbie (he's on tour with his band - they're finally about to make it big), she realizes she can't risk ruining everything he's worked so hard for, and so she keeps quiet.

Robbie knows something's up when he gets the call from Zoey. For so long he's been going back and forth on telling her how he's truly felt for her. And after her weird phone call, he decides to fly home from his tour, and tell her once and for all how he feels. What he doesn't expect is the news she has for him. He decides there and then, though, that he's wasted enough time not being with Zoey and now they're finally going to get it together.

{{From now on, she'd acquired a six foot two shadow. Zoey wasn't going to do any of this alone.}}

While facing the horrible strains that cancer puts her life, Zoey is also dealing with the emotional turmoil regarding Robbie giving up his dream of being on tour with his band. Of course, she doesn't realize he was never as in love with the idea of being on tour, as he was with being with her.

As I've said before, I'm a huge Mari Carr fan. Fix You is the start of a series that is going to be amazing if they are all as good as this one. Once again Mari has given us an emotionally charged piece of beauty!

Zoey has a great life, but something is missing. Every Thursday she gets together with her girlfriends that live in the same block as her for wine and lots of chit chat. The book opens on them together for New Years Eve, and has each of them making a vow to give certain things a second chance. Zoey keeps hers to her self she is going to finally tell her best friend and roommate Robbie that she has been in love with him for years. He just has to come home with his band from touring first, but before that can happen the rug gets pulled out from under her. How can she tell him she loves him when she has to fight literally for her life?

Rob is living what he thought was his dream come true, but in reality the road really sucks. So when he gets a weird phone call from Zoey, he rushes home to see what is really wrong with her, and tell her that he loves her and has for years. When he gets home Zoey gives him her news, but instead of running for the hills he stands right by her.

Oh wow!! I don't know if I can begin to do this book justice. It is truly an emotional roller coaster!! I cried from the beginning to the end!! Rob is beyond great!! I love that he stands by Zoey through it all even when she tries to push him away. I absolutely love that he shaves his head with her. Cancer is one of those things that has touched all of our lives be it someone in our families or really close friends, and Mari captured the battle so well. I can't recommend this one enough, and I am waiting on pins and needles for book two!!!

I prefer a good scorching romance or a fast paced thrill ride, so I wasn't sure about this angsty romance with a cancer patient. In the spirit of Breast Cancer Awareness month, I decided to give this one a go-- as I was intrigued by the 'best friends with a rock star roommate who rushes to her side when she's diagnosed' angle. The book was fantastic. The subject matter was handled in a matter of fact way- realistic, yet with humor and positive attitude. It wasn't a joy ride for the characters, but it was a realization of their feelings for each other, their strong friendship, and their acceptance that there is a little more than roommate feelings for each other. Love blossoms and strengthens as they handle chemo, hair loss, reduced sex drive, cranky feelings, guilt, and all the gamut of cancer pitfalls. It's an HEA book with heart. Great read.

The story starts with the wine girls meeting, like they always do, on Thursday night in the shared yard of their townhomes. This Thursday night however was New Year's Eve and Zoey wanted to change this next year and finally tell Rob how she feels, but that's not always easy when Rob is also her best friend. Each of the friends makes their own resolutions and the series follows the character's year of change.

Zoey is a wonderful character. She is really funny and completely likable. She is trying to get up the nerve to reveal her feelings, but doesn't want to ruin Rob's dream of being a rock star. This all changes when she finds out she has breast cancer, the first person she tells is Rob. Rob is a great guy who finally realizes his real dream, being with Zoey. But how will Zoey react to that when she is fighting cancer?

The story is told in the present with flashbacks to when they were kids. This way of telling the story definitely lets the reader see the full growth of their friendship and relationship. The story is full of laughter and crying. But it was amazing to see Zoey's strength in her fight against cancer and the laughter that Rob gave her during that time.

Mari Carr is definitely known for her erotica novels. But I have to say I really liked this romance series. This is definitely a great start to the series. 4 out of 5 stars.
