Fix-It Utilities 8 Professional [OLD VERSION]

I've been using Fix-It Utilities since Ver. 5. The program hasn't changed much over the years with a few patchs and improvements...this year there are some major innovations and one major flaw.

The program has difficulty with "Authentication" which bars the program from updating the virus patterns from Trend Micro, the power behind the protection. No update, no protection. One may as well go to the vendors that update their barebones free programs.

Support is via eMail, doesn't help when you're working on the program in the evening on a weekend as I was. I've gone through two rounds with their "tech support" who offer the advise that is available on their website, and it does not solve or resolve the problems.

In their effort to protect themselves from "pirates" they've probably lost a customer and can expect to receive their 'box' in the mail with a refund request. I've sent one last message and if they don't have a solution instead of more frustration for me I'll be looking at other software to provide the protection needed. - If they provide a viable solution I'll update the posting.

I am a software tech-
I've been happily using Fix-It Utilities 6 for years. I ONLY use 6's Utilities, and disable their anti-virus (see my Amazon review).
The only thing I didn't like about 6, was their slow reg (registry) scans.

I read another user review about 8 having fast reg scans (NOT!), so I decided to try their 15 day free trial option (DO THIS FIRST!).
It messed up my system BADLY, and I had to completely restore with Acronis True Image 9.0 (I did a full System backup, just prior to trying 8! Restore took only 3 minutes (Read my Amazon review!).

Fix-It 8 cons-
1. Their new file cleaner is WAY TOO agressive!
They give you two pages+- Listing dozens of types of files for you to pre-select for cleaning??? VERY CONFUSING!?
I checked the few that I was fairly confident with, and deleted them (luckily I opted to keep them in a backup file/settings...)?
All kinds of programs wouldn't work, uninstall help files disappered...
-The safe file cleaner on 6, never gave me problems (auto-settings)!

2. The 8 reg Fix/cleaner found no more errors, and was just as slow!

BOTTOM LINE!- You can still find Fix-It 6 CHEAP (Fix-It 7 gets BAD reviews!), on Amazon...

Fix-It 8 refuses to install on my computer. I tried to contact Avanquest technical support to get help and never got a response. Tried to call the 800 number on the box and was steered back to the web site being told that they only do technical support for Fix-It via the web site. Having problems with other Avanquest products that will not do what they are suppose to do. I will not buy any Avanquest products again.

I have a hp laptop and was having problems with the video drivers everytime I would see video my computer screen would turn black and would lock up, and I had to reboot. Ever since Ive used the optimizer feature it took away the problem and it has been 6 months without any reoccurence. I highly reccomend. It has also picked up viruses,spyware and harmfull cookies that even my Mcafee program wouldnt pick up.

My computer was running into some major issues and I suspected that spyware or some other virus or malware was causing the problems. I installed Fix-It Utilities and the difference was like night and day. Not only did it remove all of the spyware on my computer, but it also optimized it, making it run faster than when I first got it! (I think HP installed a bunch of crappy software when I first got my computer. The startup manager included in Fix It took care of that)

Pros:
Spyware & Antivirus!
Startup Manager makes your computer load faster
Registry Cleaner removed all invalid entries
One click system optimizer
and most of all... 3 user license! I have it now installed on my personal PC, sister's pc, and parents laptop

Cons:
Doesn't support Windows 98. (I know, I need to upgrade)

I use it but thankfully I also use McAfee virus software with it. I gave it full access and it attracted several trojans and malware when connecting to the internet. Luckily McAfee picked it up and removed them so I now only allow outbound for this product. It does what it says and things it doesn't say like being a magnet for bad stuff. if you buy this also get a good virus program and firewall and only allow this product to have out bound access only. Also set a restore point before install.

I haven't had any problems with it; you can download a free trial version to be on the safe side. Honestly I don't notice any speed improvement, but then again the computer runs smoothly. I have had no viruses, spyware, or anything major. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is twofold. One when it fixes something, it won't tell you what it is. Not a biggie, basically I don't think I could understand the computer gibberish. Second, I brought Wincleaner because it is a much better cleaner than the one in Fix It. Overall, would I buy Fix It again; yes. Yeah you can get lots of freeware programs that are great, and do the same. However, I am old, and not computer savvy. This works for me and is worth the money.

I have used fix it utilities since version 5. Version 8 works very well. The registry fixer does a very good job, and does it at a reasonable speed. I have recommended this software to several friends, and they have used it to greatly improve the performance of their systems. The anti-virus is from Trend Micro and it performs very well. This software is a very good alternative to Norton Systemworks.

I bought Fix-It Utilities 7 and haven't been completely unsatisfied with it. It's feature JETDefrag is the worst defrag program I have ever seen; I seriously let this program run for 37+ Hours, until I finally shut it down. My computer probably is damaged now from the heat it produced after running it that long. It's progress on JETDefrag wasn't even at 30% complete yet. The anti-virus and anti-spyware updates are incredibly large, and now it won't even allow me to update it anymore. Your computer will be overall slower once you install Fix-It Utilities, as it takes the most system resources I have ever seen any program take.
It's registry cleaner is ok, when it's working. Oh yeah, emailing them for technical support is worthless as they will never respond. I've emailed them over and over, with no response. Calling them on the phone always ends up with as a waste of time as well. Do yourself a favor and don't buy this terrible software.
