Book Description

What would you give up to get the life of your dreams?

“When a power-hungry politician’s wife leaves her glamorous but shallow marriage, hightails it for her childhood home and trades in her perfectly tailored suits for zebra-print cowboy boots and a pink tool belt, you can bet things get dusty, and dicey. Fixer Upper is a sassy, fun read that proves going home can sometimes be the smartest thing a broken-hearted woman can do.”
-Beth Hoffman, bestselling author of Saving CeeCee Honeycutt

So this is what the last straw looks like. Macy Baxter hightails it to the heartland to heal her broken heart and search for the answers to fixing her life and saving her family's vineyard, Dust Bowl Winery. With the hot pink tool belt her daddy gave her for her 35th birthday, Macy starts turning her life around, one makeover project at a time. Thanks to the presence other high school boyfriend-turned-carpenter and the computer nerd-turned-millionaire who hires her to turn the abandoned Art Deco hospital into a modern home, Macy finds it's not too late for romance or a career of her own. But will her absence make her husband's heart grow fonder? Will she cast a vote for the posh life or the pastures?

An uplifting story of girl power, power tools and getting the life you love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun book January 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
First, I loved the pig on the cover. Now that's out of the way, I thought the character of Macy Baxter was a well-developed protagonist. She had a lot of complex thoughts and emotions and ideas, just like many of us real-life women. The banter between Macy and her mother-in-law was often humorous and unexpectedly sweet. Honestly, as I read this book, I could see where this would make a great movie as well.

I will definitely purchase more of Lott's books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Live your own life! January 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
FIxer Upper is the perfect title for this wonderful story of a woman who, disillusioned with living the life everyone expected her to live, rediscovers her own power and pursues the life and values that are truly important to her. In doing so, she not only finds her own true value but shows her daughters what a strong woman looks like, one who can take on adversity and not just survive, but thrive. This is a lesson for every one of us! Read it! You'll be glad you did!

I loved the characters and the fixing up activities. The politics and underhanded actions of it were very relevant as well. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fixer Upper August 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a fun book to read, not rocket science material, but entertaining with an underlying message that you can lead a life that is false only so long.
Beautiful clothing, designer shoes, and perfect homes pale in comparison to love. There is never a reason to stay with an unfaithful man, the age old dilemma of the female. Malena Lott writes convincingly and honestly about being true to oneself. Great read. Okie Reading Specialist

4.0 out of 5 stars Satisfying read January 10, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Less about the main characters projects and more about her own personal transformation. Actually, more a story of Macy gaining confidence to trust her instincts and live the life that will make her happy. The beginning Macy is not that sympathetic a character, but in the end you are rooting for her to find love, a career and stay in the place where she can grow.
