Mind blowing funk/R&B, excellent for the jamband crowd, too.,

This review is from: Fiyo at the Fillmore 1 (Audio CD)
You can't get any better than this disc. I was completely blown away by these guys live, and then I found the disc as really capturing their live show. They can just jam from one tune to another without stopping or slowing down. This version of the band doesn't have a studio recording out, but hearing the band with guitarist Brian Stoltz, who hasn't recorded with the Funky Meters yet, is worth paying double for this disc! Art Neville and George Porter, from the original Meters, are certainly in fine form here, too. Definitely don't hesitate to get this piece of fine music, from a historic band!

It Is Hard To Sit Still,

This band is about a good as funk gets, and with a great wailing guitar as added pleasure. It is very hard to sit still when listening to this. It makes we want to get up & dance. I first saw this band like at the House of Blues in New Orleans, and this album is a faithful reflection of that great experience. Buy this album; you won't be disappointed. Then go to the band's web site and ask for more.

Fiyo too thin,
By Ex New Orleans guy (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fiyo at the Fillmore 1 (Audio CD)
There are better live performances of Meters and related material out there. This concert seems thin in its sound texture, not very powerful, and generally and uninspired. In contrast, george Porter Jr and the Runnin' Pardners'CD, Things aint what they used to be, is much tighter and energized, and the real horns are great. So get that one if you can find it

Fitting album for the funkiest band in the WORLD,

This review is from: Fiyo at the Fillmore 1 (Audio CD)
Its only does this band justice when they release a live album! The studio records are amazing but the live experience is what makes the meters/ funky meters incredible. Art Neville and George Porter jr. recruit two of nola's top musicians (russell Batiste/Brian Stoltz) and they add a little spice to the gumbo leaving what zigaboo and leo did as original members and its an amazing thing! This album leaves me waiting for fiyo volume 2.. If you get a chance go catch this band live, u will leave wanting more... They are hitting jazz fest in nola, bonnaroo so catch em live. Lets not forget zigaboo and leo either, they started this thing that contiues to grow with each new generation! The funky meters are the best band out today!
