I used it as a call to bring coyotes in and it worked.

Spent a little time with it at the house getting used to tapping out the calls then took it to the woods. I was set up on my favorite giant old shaggy bark Hickory but nothing was stirring. After an hour I decided to give the call a try. Now my understanding of the call was that it is intended to get squirrels to move around in the trees or chatter but not to come to you. I was looking up at the canopy using the call and never noticed a squirrel who was advancing on my position! When I looked down, there he was, coming straight to me about 12 feet away! I am kind of odd because I do wear head to toe camo when squirrel hunting and the bushy tail could not figure out what he was looking at! My .22 rifle (nail drivin' Marlin Model 60) was leaning against the log and the feller was right there so it was kind of a Mexican standoff. He froze, I froze... time passed... I slowly moved my hand a fraction of an inch toward my rifle... so that bushy tail lived to fight another day. A few hours later, when I dropped my hunting buddy off at his house, I was telling him about how good the Flambeau Bark Squirrel Call works. He's been hunting longer than I've been alive and never used a squirrel call so he was skeptical (you know the type). So he has walnut and pecan trees in his backyard and I took him back there and pointed out there were no squirrels visible and he agreed. I started working the call and in about 60 seconds three large squirrels started moving at the same time within easy shooting distance. (I prefer 20 yards to a few feet) A fluke? Nope. Last time I was out, I used it and a squirrel came down a nearby tree and literally came within 5 feet of me. I've only used the bark/chatter call but several reviewers say the distress call is the best part.Read more ›

What can I say. Its a squirrel bark call - and it does what its supposed to do. Had mine for 2 seasons and getting ready for season three. Sounds and functions just like similar calls that I've used. No complaints.

Very light tapping required to create call compared to other calls of same type. May actually be too light and create noise while carrying if bumped. Slightly larger than others. Requires cupping of hand over muzzle to get proper tone.

This call works. I can't say that enough. If the squirrel is on the wrong side of the tree, bark and he will be visible.

I got this call at a local auction house in a box of old hunting gear for $6. I didn't know that it was a squirrel call until I found it on amazon. I used it as a call to bring coyotes in and it worked. I saw a coyote at 100 yards and squeezed the call violently for about 3 seconds. The coyote turned and sprinted straight toward me! (Keep in mind, I am in a 17' tree stand with a compound bow) I stopped calling when he got to about 40 yards and he trotted into about 20 yards where I killed him with an arrow tipped with a rage 2 blade broad head.

As for the squirrel calling capabilities of this call, I cannot say. It works great for what I use it for, and that is why I give it five stars.

This product is just what it was advertised to be. It is just what I wanted. It came quickly and in perfect condition. I used it the next day and it worked great. I shot my limit in squirrels the first time I used this call. This call was low in cost but great in quality. I hope to keep this call for years. GREAT PRODUCT AND WELL DESERVING OF 5 STARS. I would recommend this call to anyone who enjoys to hunt squirrels.

This thing is great. I just received it the other day so I only got to try it once. A fox squirrel was messing around near the bid feeder so i opened the window and did some barks. That thing went up on a limb and its tail was going crazy. This call sounds very realistic. You can take off the end and make the squeals too.

I've never called squirrels before and thought I'd give it a shot. It's January and almost the end of the squirrel season in Iowa. It's cold and there's no leaves on the trees. All of the dumb squirrels have already been shot. It makes it really hard to hunt with iron sights.

So the call arrived. I practiced for a while to get the hang of it. I stepped out on my deck and saw a several gray squirrels working the forest floor. I gave one short set of chatters. All of the squirrels immediately took to the trees. My first thought was I scared them away but pretty soon I saw them peeking around the tree trunks at me. They'd stayed hidden and worked their way towards me to check me out. They also were very curious and did not bolt from me when I moved.

So my wife and I grabbed our 22s and headed to a local hunting area. This time of year it's a dry hole for squirrels. Tons are harvested by this time of the season and probably every one of the survivors has been shot at, stalked or chased at least once since season opened. We started a slow walk in a grid pattern and gave a short set of chatters about every 100 to 200 yards regardless of whether we saw signs of squirrels or not. Surprisingly we had several fox squirrels come out to check us out over the course of the day. All of the ones that we saw were actively (but stealthily) working their way closer to us (I'm assuming they were curious). We didn't get our limits but we had plenty of chances to shoot. The reason I'm impressed is because I've never seen a squirrel in my 15-40 yard iron sight range in this particular area at this time of year. Usually if you see a squirrel at all it's running as far and as fast as it can away from you on the forest floor. The call actually made them curious enough to stick their heads out and come closer to us.
