These "hot" gloves fit like most regular gloves, and there-in lies the rub. One would not grab a hot oven dish with regular, snowball throwing gloves, and that's what it felt like. But with some "build-up", from warm to hotter plates, my wife worked up to a confidence level where she now prefers these Oven Gloves. They are not as bulky as classic mitts. They work fine, but are kinda thin, so you wouldn't want to just hold a 400 degree dish while watching the end of NCIS. You can take it out of the oven and move it to the counter without problem.

Incredible protection without losing grip,
This review is from: Flame Resistant Oven Glove Commercial Grade (Tools & Home Improvement)
My mom gave me 2 of these gloves for Christmas. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical at first as the gloves seem to be very thin. I am used to my cumbersome but protective mitts when I barbecue, so far they've done the trick, but it is very difficult to properly manipulate all of the barbecue tools with a mitt.
The gloves allow very easy handling of forks, flat spatulas, tongs and brushes. Oiling the meat with a brush is no challenge with these gloves on, no chance of dropping anything. From a heat protection stand point, my first fears were quickly gone when I tried to slide one of the bbq grids, after it was lit for 15 minutes. The metal was certainly very hot, but the glove had more than enough insulation to let me do the job without taking the heat. It feels weird at first as you barely can feel the glove on your skin, but the protection is there. In addition to resistance to burn, the very thick cotton mesh liner seem to make the glove resistant to cuts as well. In fact I am now slicing the meat with the gloves on, which saved some skin already. The light color is nice but they can become dirty quickly. I brushed off most of the residues after it dried, but eventually I will have to wash the gloves. The good news is that unlike flame retardants, these can be washed without losing their properties. Hands down, my number one pick hand saver all around the kitchen.

Best Oven Mitt,

I received this as a gift about 2 years ago and still use it daily! It has held up well even with daily use. I feel very little heat when using it. Since getting mine, my sister-in-law and mother now have one too. I highly recommend this product for those who cook often and for those who barely cook!

No more burns,

I'd tried virtually every sort of potholder, oven mitt, etc. but no matter what I tried I'd always ended up with random singes on the tops of my hands from oven racks, burnt thumbs from the hole to supposedly hang up my bulky silicone potholders and as I've gotten older and cook with a lot of heavy cookware I've worried about having a good grip on these pots when I'm trying to lift them in and out of the oven or on and off the stove. So I was looking for something that would let me use my hands normally, be flexible and provide protection.
These gloves are perfect. I just love them...they slip on easily (no fumbling), cover your hands completely (no more burning the tops of my hands when reaching between oven racks), and they are really flexible so I can get a good grip when lifting heavy casserole, roasting pans and dutch ovens out of the oven or turning breads, pizza, muffins, cookies, etc. half way through baking to ensure even cooking, pull oven racks in and out, and flipping kebab skewers on the grill easily. I love that unlike bulky mitts or stiff silicone potholders you get an independent all finger dexterous grip...like having burn-proof hands and they are truly flame resistant unlike those bulky old mitts and potholders. Each glove is sold separately (one to a package) since at my age strength was an issue and I have two hands I bought two of these great gloves (sort of pricy but definitely worth it). No worries about left or right as the glove works on either hand. There is one caveat while they can virtually give you protection against any item heated up to 450 degrees and flame flare-ups the gloves must be kept DRY...no plunging them into boiling cauldrons as hot liquids would penetrate the mesh fiber of the gloves so I'll repeat the manufacturer's warning "Do not use wet as water would transmit heat to the inside of the glove".

I bought these gloves to give to my daughter, a 15 year old who is extremely afraid of the oven, for a gift. However once I saw them I knew full well that she wouldn't wear them because they are ENORMOUS on my small hands and knew they'd be the same for her. I debated sending them back, but my husband saw them and said they'd be perfect for camping and using with the dutch oven. We haven't used them yet, but I know that they'll work fine for our new purpose. I'll have to update this again later after using it for the dutch oven.

As long as they dont get wet, these gloves rule the kitchen! Great dexterity, completely insulated, & they even have a little loop inside to hang them by!
A little bit large, but that way they accomodate my husbands hands too. I bought 2 so that I'd have both hands protected. I just hope they launder well.

These gloves rock. Went you first look at them you're going to think "what is this?". My hands are sensitive, I often think water is warmer than others so handling hot oven trays is not something I like. With these it's almost fun. You don't have the downside of big clumsy gloves, they're not like a towel which always gets in the way. I wish I had bought them a year ago.

This is a great glove. I wear it constantly when I grill and it has saved my hand more than once. It is true you shouldn't get it wet or it will heat up more quickly. Additionally, it doesn't protect you for a long time. I feel the heat building up if I'm working in the grill for too long. Occasionally I have to take it off and let it cool down. But this usually takes several minutes of heat and it cools down pretty quickly. The only disadvantage is the package only comes with one glove so you have to buy two for two hands, but its worth it.

as a lot of folks who do heat intensive, hearth style bread baking at exceptionally high temperatures know, the whole operation is a real juggling act and everything - if you want the perfect crust, etc. - needs to be done as quickly as possible. i had previously been doing some asinine combination of pot holders and hand towels. sometimes a little addition can go a long way to making life a lot easier. this oven glove is just that kind of item.indeed, they aren't cheap but so far seem to be well worth the investment.

I cannot tell you how tire I am of cheaply made good from abroad. My last pair of cheaply made oven mitts last all of 6 months before the first rip appeared. How did I discover it you ask? By being burned as I removed a cookie sheet from the oven!! Ever since then I have been looking a for a quality set of oven mitts and can upon the Flame Resistant Oven Glove Commercial Grade by G&F. At first I was skeptical, but the reviews were glowing so I decided to give these glove-type oven (mitts) a try. I'm glad I did; these gloves are great. The quintessential test: removing a broiler pan from the oven after broiling salmon for 15 minutes. Verdict: didn't feel any heat as I removed the pan from the oven! I am in love! I highly recommend these gloves; they are well worth the $9.00 a piece I paid. No more cheaply made oven (mittens) gloves for this baker. |
