Incredible Mystical Blend,
By A Customer
This review is from: Flamenco Mystico (Audio CD)
This music is unbelievably uplifting. For nearly decades Ive tried to find the "perfect" blend of world musical styles, largely in vain, despite the vast array of "fusion" and new age masters. After a really long time (way back in 1980 when I heard to the Moscow symphony render an Indian raga based symphony), this is the only CD that made my hairs stand on edge by its incredible blend of Flamenco with Middle Eastern and Indian musical textures woven in a unique, mature matrix.

No One Does It Better,

I have been an avid fan of Flamenco music and dance for a decade. Gino D'Auri's piece titled "Flamenco Mystico" is the best I have yet to hear. Many Flamenco pieces are loud and disjointed, and often are enjoyed only in live performance with a dancer. However, this CD is the best of passionate Flamenco you will find on the market. Listen to it, enjoy it, anywhere, anytime. Two pieces really stand out... "Quelo de Triana (Soleares)" and Recuerdos de la Alhambra. Too bad he is a sporadic recorder.

Goodbye to a master.,

Absolutely essential listening for anyone who loves the guitar as a voice in and of itself. It's worth buying the album just to hear the Rondena para Sabicas (a requiem for Sabicas, a grand technical master of flamenco). Gino D'Auri, a Rom from Italy, had an immense, haunted, more lyrical musicality than most flamenco artists, and understood the critical difference between technique and soul in playing the instrument. D'Auri passed away too, not long ago, so there won't be any more records like this.

Gorgeous CD--more modern interpretation of traditional Flamenco makes it more accessible to those of us who are not classical purists and perhaps younger listeners--but at thes same time it is not populist or glitzy. D'Auri's musicianship is impressive and his interpretations are complex and challenging. This is a beautiful collection.

Terrific fusion-style flamenco CD,

This CD may be one of the best of its type for fans of modern ensemble flamenco. Gino D'Auri captures the traditional spirit of the art with his excellent playing and is supported by the talents of musicians of various instruments who bring out the best in the different toques. Every track is a delight to listen to and the virtuoso interpretations by D'Auri are filled with musical splendor and the flamenco guitar's pure, sweet tones never sounded better. The Tarrega study that closes out the CD is played in reverse order but is a beautiful recording of a great favorite among lovers of classical music.

A nice one,

Flamenco and Easy Listening are not often musical categories which intersect. Nevertheless, Gino D'Auri manages to achieve this rather strange synthesis, and, what is more, accomplish it with both good taste and fidelity to the flamenco tradition -- a remarkable feat.
Although this may not please the most die-hard purists, it can be safely recommended to everyone else. The total time is 59'59". Note to the publishers: "Místico" is spelled with two i's in Spanish.

Great Summer Listening,

I first heard of Gino D'Auri from an internet radio station and was duly blown away by what I heard. I turned to Amazon and low and behold there was the CD. It's on the CD player at the moment and is great as background music to warm summer evenings drinking beer and socialising. The music envelops you with warm sensations and images of cool mediterranean evenings. Just fantastic.
