5.0 out of 5 stars For a love of flamingo, the patriarch of the Gypsy Kings, September 21, 2003
This review is from: Flamenco Passion (Audio CD)
This is for the complete Gypsy King collector, for the lover of flamingo, for the paramour of soulful music - this is patriarch of Los Reyes, later known as the Gypsy Kings, Jose Reyes. Accompanied by stunning guitar work and a truly unreal voice, all Jose Reyes recordings are like the very best luxuries of the world. That being said, this is the best of his best. A perfect primer for those branching off from contemporary Latin flamingo and seeking a more 'gypsy' or irreverent sound. It is hypnotizing raw passion, and it features many of his family who went on to become the Gypsy Kings.' 'Hommage a Jose Reyes' from Canut Reyes makes me want to cry because it is so lovely. Oddly enough, you can find a few of these songs re-recorded from French into Spanish in their later work!

This is their genesis though from the heart of Jose. It features the gambit of moods, from tragic love to upbeat dance rhythm. You'll want to dance with yourself in a dark room just because the music moves you. It was a stunning find when I first happened upon it browsing in a local music hang-out, and has since become a beloved friend over the years... and surprisingly great sound quality! Well recorded, but like listening to the roots of blues where you're in the same room. If your a lover of Latin guitar you'll feel like you've uncovered a secret.
