5.0 out of 5 stars the VOID
The Flaming Lips truly care about presenting a quality product to their fans (see Brad Beesley's fabulous "Fearless Freaks" DVD documentary for further proof!), and this DVD is no exception. Presented are the Lips' video output for the Warner Brothers record label (sorry, completists, no "Unconsiously Screamin'"), which have apparently come from fresh video or film...

2.0 out of 5 stars Dissappointing
For such a creative band, most of the Flaming Lips' videos are incredibly boring. A few are cute, most are lame and cheap, and not worthy of the songs. It's also interesting to see the band using the same tricks throughout their career - hey, let's film a video where we walk through a field at night with a spot light on us. The only difference is that now they have hot...

5.0 out of 5 stars the VOID, September 2, 2005
This review is from: The Flaming Lips: Void (DVD)
The Flaming Lips truly care about presenting a quality product to their fans (see Brad Beesley's fabulous "Fearless Freaks" DVD documentary for further proof!), and this DVD is no exception. Presented are the Lips' video output for the Warner Brothers record label (sorry, completists, no "Unconsiously Screamin'"), which have apparently come from fresh video or film transfers, with 100% remastered audio - available in stereo 2.0 or glorious (THUNDERING) 5.1. This compilation is perfect for the starting Flaming Lips fan, who would otherwise never have an opportunity to see the Clouds Taste Metallic gem "Bad Days," and fills in certain "voids" for the completist, with the inclusion of both versions of "Do You Realize??," and "Phoebe Battles the Pink Robots."
The DVD is no-frills - don't buy it if you think it's loaded with bonus features and making-of documentaries. This compilation is about the Flaming Lips music video output. The menus are beautiful, with a Zaireeka track in the background of the main menu (which pops up immediately after putting the DVD in - NO PREVIEWS or LOGOS! THANK YOU, WARNER BROTHERS!), and assorted "Transmissions from the Sattelite Heart" & "Yoshimi" tracks under the other menus. It's a joy to have fallen asleep during some of the last videos to wake up to these menus. Pleasing to the eye AND ear!
Included is a BRAND NEW track / video "Mr. Ambulance Driver," which is a cut from the new album AT WAR WITH THE MYSTICS. A free AT WAR... sticker is included in the package, along with a track listing, which is broken down track by track by head lip (and director on most videos) Wayne Coyne. Coyne's comments are always creative, and it gives some insight about the videos and their "plot," when one is present. While it may seem silly, the track from the Spongebob Squarepants movie "Spongebob and Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall" is present, and it is one of the highlights of the entire DVD! Thrill to the lips dressed as various food items, falling about a giant prop mouth, slowly mastecating our heros amongst false saliva!
What more needs to be said? Amazon.com's price is a STEAL, so what are you waiting for? Turn it on and all the way up, people.

I wrote a review a good time back of The Fearless Freaks to prematurely. I tried to go back and rewrite it, but Amazon only allows one review per item. Anyway, I give The Fearless Freaks 5 Stars after watching it a half dozen times. It slowly grew on me with each viewing.

Void compliments The Fearless Freaks and is outstanding on it's own merits. I had never seen any music videos by these guys. Note: I'm fairly new to the Lips. This video collection hits on my favorite albums: Transmissions, Clouds, Bulletin, Yoshimi. With the video ending with the UK version of "Do you realize", I just about squirted a few. It's like when one of your favorite movie ends with a killer song that just hits you in the gut! I love that song anyway! Thanks You Guys!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT! I disagree with Robert M. Flynn, February 19, 2006
This review is from: The Flaming Lips: Void (DVD)
I loved this DVD. I was a little worried when I first saw it, because I love the Flaming Lips, and the worst feeling in the world is finally seeing a band that you love and seeing their videos and being let down. The Flaming Lips did not let me down at all, in fact, their videos are exactly what I had expected. They are great visual partners to the wonderful songs.

I recommend this to any real fan of the Flaming Lips, because the videos are perfect representations of the music. If you like the Flaming Lips, you'll definitely enjoy this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Trippy Man!, September 28, 2005

This review is from: The Flaming Lips: Void (DVD)
An excellent complilation of the videos of one of the best bands on the planet (along with Guided By Voices). This DVD covers every video in reverse order along with a few surprises. Its a visual overload of trippy psycadelic imagery and its quite hard to watch in one sitting unless your slightly "wonky to the ways of the world". To get the standard music set the Audio options to Stereo or select 5.1 surround to get surround sound remixes of all the songs. Whilst these are good some of these can be distracting so I prefer to stick to the original version. All in all. Good stuff.
