Missing the romantic pull, July 12, 2006
This review is from: Flamingo Place (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I hate to say I was disspointed with this book. It was a quick read, but not a romance. It lacked the emotional connection. There was nothing romantic or sensual about it. Even the sex scene was lacking (again because I didn't see or feel the emotional connection). It was just a story. Nothing more, nothing less. It was faced paced and funny. I read it in a few hours, so the writing style is captivating, but the story was just on the lacking side. Oh and all of the characters were stereotypes. It didn't bother me, but nor did it add to the story. It was a quick and enjoyable read, but it was just a story. I'm giving the book three stars. I saved it and had to edit. I cant' figure out how to add the star. Three stars because the story was cute and definitely funny. I probably won't keep it, though.(Nothing emotionally grabbing)

An African-American version of Melrose Place, August 13, 2006
This review is from: Flamingo Place (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Flamingo Place is an upscale beachfront property in north Florida that is home to a wide array of residents from all walks of life. Jen St. George moves into the property leaving a no-good ex-boyfriend and a lackluster job back in the Midwest. She comes to the south to take on a position as an advice columnist at a local paper. Since she does a lot of her work from home, Jen finds it annoying when her neighbor, a man named Trestin Monroe, blasts hip hop music at all hours of the day, preventing her from doing her work. When her column causes a stir in the community, Jen finds herself being lambasted on the radio by a smooth on-air personality known as "D'Dawg." What she doesn't know is that D'Dawg and her loud neighbor are one and the same.
This book was okay, but had none of the elements that make a romance worth reading. The story was predictable and just a bit too easy. There was no chemistry between Jen and Trestin and even their love scene didn't have any spark. There was no reason to root for this couple or even hope that they made things work. In fact, the highlight of the book were the other residents of Flamingo Place and their scheming to get Jen and Trestin together. Complete with nosy gossips and elderly matchmakers, the setting of this book was more interesting than the romantic elements. Flamingo Place was a quick read, but not worth the time.

Ok for a comedy, not great on the romance, April 15, 2008
This review is from: Flamingo Place (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
If you want a 'typical' romance story this is not it. This is more like a romantic comedy with more comedy than romance. I enjoyed the story, its lightweight but sets the scenes for the rest of the series. Not a bad read but borrow than buy.
