Missing the romantic pull,
By Romance Lover "RL" (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Flamingo Place (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I hate to say I was disspointed with this book. It was a quick read, but not a romance. It lacked the emotional connection. There was nothing romantic or sensual about it. Even the sex scene was lacking (again because I didn't see or feel the emotional connection). It was just a story. Nothing more, nothing less. It was faced paced and funny. I read it in a few hours, so the writing style is captivating, but the story was just on the lacking side. Oh and all of the characters were stereotypes. It didn't bother me, but nor did it add to the story. It was a quick and enjoyable read, but it was just a story. I'm giving the book three stars. I saved it and had to edit. I cant' figure out how to add the star. Three stars because the story was cute and definitely funny. I probably won't keep it, though.(Nothing emotionally grabbing)

An African-American version of Melrose Place,
By
This review is from: Flamingo Place (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Flamingo Place is an upscale beachfront property in north Florida that is home to a wide array of residents from all walks of life. Jen St. George moves into the property leaving a no-good ex-boyfriend and a lackluster job back in the Midwest. She comes to the south to take on a position as an advice columnist at a local paper. Since she does a lot of her work from home, Jen finds it annoying when her neighbor, a man named Trestin Monroe, blasts hip hop music at all hours of the day, preventing her from doing her work. When her column causes a stir in the community, Jen finds herself being lambasted on the radio by a smooth on-air personality known as "D'Dawg." What she doesn't know is that D'Dawg and her loud neighbor are one and the same.
This book was okay, but had none of the elements that make a romance worth reading. The story was predictable and just a bit too easy. There was no chemistry between Jen and Trestin and even their love scene didn't have any spark. There was no reason to root for this couple or even hope that they made things work. In fact, the highlight of the book were the other residents of Flamingo Place and their scheming to get Jen and Trestin together. Complete with nosy gossips and elderly matchmakers, the setting of this book was more interesting than the romantic elements. Flamingo Place was a quick read, but not worth the time.

Ok for a comedy, not great on the romance,
By Denny "Den" (London,UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Flamingo Place (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
If you want a 'typical' romance story this is not it. This is more like a romantic comedy with more comedy than romance. I enjoyed the story, its lightweight but sets the scenes for the rest of the series. Not a bad read but borrow than buy.

Very Disappointing,
This review is from: Flamingo Place (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I purchased this book without reading the synopsis, simply because I've read the authors work in the past. BIG MISTAKE. Their was no chemistry, the plot was to predictable, too many miscellaneous characters. This book should have never made it to print. :(

How Not To Know Your Neighbor,
By
This review is from: Flamingo Place (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Although the book is fairly light reading, the author uses many clever twists and turns to keep sexually-attracted neighbors Jen St. George and Tre Monroe from realizing they are really enemies in the on-going battle of radio-show personality ratings vs. newspaper advice columnist ratings. At times, the reader can even imagine this turning into an episode of "I Love Lucy" with all its dire consequences.
The secondary characters of a meddling mother and in-your-face best friend provide interesting sidelights. Cynthia Breeding, historical romance author

A light fun story that commanded my interest from the start and had me in hysterics before too long. I couldn't put the book down
The author brought this story to life with detailed character development and vivid descriptions of settings and scenes. Instead of reading a story about Flamingo Beach and its residents, I felt that I could be the proverbial fly on the wall, able to see and hear all. I can't wait to see what Flamingo Beach has to offer next...

Funny! Funny! Funny!,
By Katrina Linley "Kat" (Florida, West Palm USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Flamingo Place (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I found Flamingo Place to be a totally captivating read. I laughed so hard my sides ached. Hard to believe Flamingo Beach is a fictitious town in "somewhere" Florida. I loved the little map on the inside created by a real designer. But humor aside, columnist Jen St. George and love interest, radio personality (I guess that's what they're called these days,) Tre Monroe are a match made in heaven. As for the assistant, Chere, what a hoot! She reminds me of Lula in the Evanovich novels. Bravo on character development and a story that moves. I can't wait for the sequel.

Not Good....,
By Gina (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Flamingo Place (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
In the past I have enjoyed books written by this author, but this book in my opinion was NOT good. It was really boring in my opinion. Reading what the book was about piqued my interest, but after actually reading the book, I was really disappointed.
I bought another book written by this author called "Designed for You"....I hope it will good. |
