5.0 out of 5 stars The Brilliance of Madness., December 26, 2001

This album is, for me, perhaps one of the most influential albums of all time.

Dogbowl(Stephen Tunney - once a member of King Missile before they sold out), is a musical and poetic genius of the highest order, and anybody who has not realised this fact yet is just kidding themselves for the longrun.

All the tracks on this album are of exceptional preportion, but my all-time favorates include the dreamy 'flowers turn on their stems', the short but very sweet 'flan awoke' and the atrociously vicious 'Here come the Cannibals'.

Please, for maximum effect, read the book of Flan while listening to this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not As difficult As It May Seem, December 14, 2000

Imagine if you will, a schmaltzy Broadway production of a post-apocolyptic fairy tale, composed through the collaborative efforts of Frank Zappa, Benny Goodman and the guy that did Phantom Of the Opera.

It may not sound appealing on paper, but let it get into your ears and the bizarre story and sneaky, snakey melodies will grow on you like a boil you don't want to lance. A big part of it is dogbowls goofy, endearing vocal delivery. It's a sort of nasal whine that oozes with equal parts sincerity and sarcasm. He knows what he's saying is bizarre, but he's enjoying every second of it. And so will the adventerous, open-minded listener.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great as Dogbowl always is. Better if you have read the book, February 2, 1999

An underappreciated artist except by those that know his work. The book Flan was like one long sentence to me, fung fung - but very creative. Prophetic? I don't know, maybe it has already happened. The book and album is about a guy who wakes up to find that his room, and consequently the city is on fire. So naturally he takes his toupee and goes searching for his girlfriend, also taking with him his pet fish, Ginger Kang Kang, which he carries in the pocket of his nightshirt. The city/world? is basically destroyed. There are low brown clouds with flakes of ash falling, streets formed from melted glass, maddened people who have become cannibalistic, and strange creatures like Michael the dog with the human head and a giant whistling floating eyeball. Flan tries his best to maintain his sanity as he makes his way to the mountains where he is sure he will find his girlfriend Holly.

I also highly recommend the album Cyclops Nuclear Submarine Captain.
