4.0 out of 5 stars Tried another
Programming/scripting is not natural for me! It is hard work. This is the third book on AS 3.0 I've tried. The other books did not work for me. I need a book that will tell me what to do in a very elementary manner. I can then put it in context. For example:

1. This is how you script interactivity in a button (code)
2. This is what it is doing...

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!
I have never received such poor service from a seller on Amazon. I ordered this book for a class I am taking and it never came! A month goes by and I ask where is my book the sellers comment was that they have been busy but the book has been sent... that is interesting because I never received it. Another slap in the face was the sellers comment on another inquiry of...

Programming/scripting is not natural for me! It is hard work. This is the third book on AS 3.0 I've tried. The other books did not work for me. I need a book that will tell me what to do in a very elementary manner. I can then put it in context. For example:

1. This is how you script interactivity in a button (code)
2. This is what it is doing
3. This is what the various segments of code mean
etc.

This is the way I learned HTML. I looked up the code to do a given item. Over time if morphed into a thorough understanding of what HTML is and how to do it. This book enables me to do something similar. It takes basic AS 3.0, shows you how to do it then gives the information so you can put it in context. I'm relieved and grateful to find a book that allows me to construct the learning in a way that best fits me. THANK YOU!

This is a great guide that will give you step by step instructions on how to use Adobe Flash CS3 professional. You'll learn how to make Flash animations to add great multimedia to your websites or just games for local use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for starters. Don't let the name fool you., December 3, 2007
This review is from: Flash CS3 Professional for Windows and Macintosh (Paperback)
I love the Visual QuickStart Guides. This book has easy to follow lessons which are great for beginners. Professional refers to the more robust version of Flash not the skill level of the reader. I have combined this book with some video tutorials which is ideal for learning actionscript fast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, September 24, 2007
This review is from: Flash CS3 Professional for Windows and Macintosh (Paperback)
The book has all the tools necessary to help beginners learn Flash concepts quickly. It is written in an easy to understand manner, and it is easy to comprehend. And it is also very affordable.
For the next edition, I think I would like to see some examples of projects that can be created by using the different tools Flash has to offer. Either step-by-step in the book or a link to a website where people can practice what they have learned, for better understanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winning Visual Quickstart Guide, November 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Flash CS3 Professional for Windows and Macintosh (Paperback)
I needed to create a complex scientific animation that overwhelmed PowerPoint's meager animation capabilities. I did not know anything about Flash. I have gotten great results with PeachPit's Visual Quickstart Guides for Photoshop and Illustrator in the past, so I took a chance and bought this one sight unseen. I was not dissappointed.

I read the first few chapters straight through, to get the gist of the program. Then I looked up individual sections I needed to get the job done. I took me a couple of days (and one late night) but I got the animation done. In the end there were more that 100 individual animated objects, each of which morphed in both shape and location. It was good enough to run continuously at a major trade show. I learned everything I needed to know from this book.

Like the other Visual QuickStart guides, this book covers individual common tasks in short chapters. These short, well-illustrated lessons tell you how to accomplish the task in clear language, with explanations of the different options and outcomes. I have no time to read an entire book to learn how to use a program. The "what you need to know to do accomplish this" approach used here works great for me.

If you need clear instructions on how to accomplish specific tasks in Flash, this is the book fr you. Highly recommended, no problems identified. Five stars.

Reading the other reviews, we chose this book to learn Flash. And its great for us since we've never used Flash before. Very "step by step," which is what we need. Only into a few chapters, but already have a good idea of how to do basic operations. Definitely a great addition for us.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flash Manual Useful, June 21, 2009

After one of the students in my class used Flash for his final project, I was compelled to learn it myself. This manual had enough info to get me making little flash movies in a day or two. As with all art, however, the need to express content drives the learning of technical skills. Once I know what content I want to work with, I know the skills will follow. Having this book will help me every step of the way.

Here's a link to some of my first experiments in learning. They're rough, but I see a lot of potential when I can seriously work on a project. The gamut of possibility ranges from simple to amazingly complex. I would recommend this book.
