I use manual mode only with my Pentax K-5. That solves my flash problem. That also limits my versatility. I have used Pentax cameras since the K1000. This is probably my last Pentax. The K-5 is just too much to tolerate.

I have a K-5 and a Vivitar DF-383 flash. When placing the flash on the camera shoe and turning on the battery power the flash pulses. The ttl feature is useless. I must shoot in manual mode to utilize the flash. Yours may not suffer from this problem. For you sake, I hope not.
