Book Description

May 1, 2001 Carl McCadden Mysteries
The garden was immaculately landscaped, the front door and window frames freshly painted. Inside, the tiles and mahogany lent a somber air to the hall, which contrasted with the violent green and orange wallpaper upstairs. Behind the glossy orange door, the bludgeoned and flayed body of a woman lay tangled in blood-soaked sheets. The Belview Guesthouse, overlooking the city of Waterford, is popular in theatrical circles. And it’s into this world that Inspector Carl McCadden is forced to search for leads. But before he can dig out his copy of Hamlet, another body is found.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"'The Irish setting makes for a pleasant change and Inspector Carl McCadden has just the right degree of laid-back charm' Guardian"

From the Publisher

Subtle, complex, and compelling, Jim Lusby’s mysteries are set in “the real Ireland, where pleasure and pain are inextricably linked.” Of his hero—unshaven, unorthodox, and unpopular with his superiors—the GUARDIAN writes: “Inspector Carl McCadden has just the right degree of laid back charm.”

4.0 out of 5 stars Gritty, complex and wonderfully written, April 12, 2002

This review is from: Flashback (Carl McCadden Mysteries) (Paperback)
For those who like crime stories with strong characters and complex plots this is a great book. The cental character (McCadden) is like a gritty Inspector Morse, but with more of an edge. Lusby's insight into the seedy side of modern Irish society is spot on and presented as a wonderful read. I can't wait for Inspector McCaddens next outing.
