Complemented by a flawless narration, today's reading makes Flashman as politically incorrect as he was originally intended to be during the Victorian era--and that may cause offense. But this story of England's efforts to influence Afghanistan in the 1840's is both good history and good storytelling. Ranging his voice from barroom banter to confidential softness, Timothy West creates the voice of a true raconteur.
