Pirates! Showdown is an elementally simple game that is nonetheless extremely fast-paced and exciting. The concept is simple- tap a outpost to upgrade it, which increases its health and attributes (income, morale radius, firepower, etc), or tap the map to launch a ship, which sails towards your enemy and does battle with anything it finds on the way.

Ships will attempt to reduce and capture towns on the path, which they follow as closely as the water permits. Aside from towns, there's houses, treasure chests, guard towers, obelisks, lighthouses, shipyards, and other outposts that can be captured. Most can be upgraded. If you capture one of the enemy's home towns, you win- and vice versa. Performing an upgrade also repairs the outpost, which can really save your hide if done at the right time.

Sounds pretty simple, but it's actually quite complex and can get frantic since it's all real-time. A few seconds' hesitation or sending one ship on a wrong course could mean defeat. You also have to decide what to upgrade and when- a high level guard tower in the right spot can hold off an armada, but then again maybe it's better worth upgrading a town to max for long-term resources, or launching a ship of the line to simply beat the enemy into submission.

It would be great if this game had multiplay. Seriously, the type of gameplay just screams for it, but the AI isn't too bad. The graphics are pretty nice and 3D, though the map can't be rotated (probably to avoid confusing you). Runs smoothly on KFHD, though initial load time is a bit long.

I measure a game's worth by how long it takes me to put it away. This one is a keeper.

It starts with an excellent tutorial and a couple of easy levels. Then the fun begins. Found the AI to be challenging enough, well paced and good level progression.

Most definitely recommend.

Very fun little game where you are fighting against other ships for control over islands and eventually working your way over to destroying the opponents base. So far I have only fought against the computer, would be cool if they made it so you can play against other players online.

This game plays like a drawn-out tower defense game.

You have basically two options, upgrade a structure or send out a ship. The ships you send out are on autopilot. You can pick their initial path, but you cannot control them once they're on their way. All you can do is watch them as they fire cannonballs at the enemy. Once you get enough gold, send out another ship, then watch some more.

You'll spend most of your time just watching ships shoot at each other, and waiting for your gold level to increase enough for you to buy something. Buy, watch, buy, watch.

Maybe the upper levels are more interesting, but I got so bored going through the first island that I just quit.

And, yes, I do feel a little bad having to say that. The developers did put some care into this game. But it isn't what I was hoping for.

This is nicely designed Real Time Strategy game. You control the pirates and can capture towns and own them. They make money for you (Gold) with it you can launch ships, build more towns and plunder more gold. Keep making ships because as the battle goes on you will lose ships. The objective is to capture the opponent's cities and win the war. As you gain gold you can build your towns bigger to earn gold faster and you can even build a super ship. It just costs you more gold so plan your battles carefully.

For me the game is OK. You don't really control the action except to make the decisions to build ships or improve the towns. Just think smart and work faster than your enemy. The game played smoothly on my Samsung Tab 4. Remember that the timing during the game of when to expand the cities and when to build ships can be critical.

I rate this game as a 4 star. I do not like the Flurry Ads or the Flurry Analytics in the game but they have not popped up any ads yet. Good graphics and sound make this app entertaining for a while!

This app contains both Flurry Ads and Flurry Analytics. That means it has the potential to monitor your game play and access and also send you ads. It can also share your information that you have allowed it to collect using the permissions you have accepted at the time of the purchase. The main menu page also has a link to Facebook as well as a link to more games that takes you to the Amazon Appstore.

The size of the app is 56.7 MB uncompressed. I could manually transfer the app to my SD card and its size went to 73.51 MB with 15.51 staying in my device memory and 58 MB going to the SD card.

Love the game, been playing for a few months. I do not like the fact that level difficulty only means your opponent is able to generate gold at increasingly faster rates, while you are still limited to your upgrades. It gets annoying when they can launch 3 ships to your 1. Would like to see the difficulty factor be in the points required to conquer a base. You build up your fleet then it is over too quickly because no matter the level of the base you attack, 200 points takes it.
Still it is a fun game and would love to see new levels. Also want a way to keep track of level you are on so if you leave you know where you left off.

I agree. Also frustrated that the last level is next to impossible other than on easy. Another fun feature would be a randomize button that assigns ownership of towns/towers as that would allow you to replay the same levels with a slightly different challenge.
