Customer Reviews

The story is a simple surviors on the run deal with two characters who get underutilized.
Slim Cat
They try some interesting combination, like Deadman and Nightwing, but it just doesn't completeley stick or stories aren't that interesting.
alexi_m
I would recommend this is anyone one who is looking for a good read and loves the darker side of things.

Flashpoint. The event of mid 2011 that completely altered DC's timeline to give a very weird reality as well as set up for a new universe altogether. Reading the event itself, Flashpoint, will help give a reader an idea why this world is the way it is. But these mini series are not necessary to Flashpoint itself, they just expand and build on the event and the world itself.

This collection features the four three issue mini-series "Batman: Knight of Vengeance", "Deadman and the Flying Graysons", "Deathstroke and the Curse of the Ravanger", and "Secret Seven".

The first story, "Batman: Knight of Vengeance" shows how a Batman would exist in this world. That fateful night in crime alley it was not Bruce Wayne who watched his parents gunned down it was Thomas and Martha Wayne who watched their son gunned down. Thomas is driven to become the Batman and a brutal crime boss/casino owner. Thomas Wayne as the Batman is also not afraid to dish out a more lethal form of justice than what we are accustom to seeing. Writer Brian Azzarello does an excellent job of setting up his character's world and delivering a gut punching nerve racking story. This one is incredible, the highlight of this collection, and might be one of the best Batman stories ever written.

The next story is a logical step, as there is no Bruce Wayne Batman, it begs the question, Whatever Happened to the Boy Wonder? This piece is, "Deadman and the Flying Graysons". Dick Grayson and his parents are still alive and happily performing their hi-wire circus act. They are also touring what remains of war torn east Europe (Aquaman and Wonder Woman are at war and most of western Europe has been sunk because of it!).

Most of the comic shops in my area have shut down long ago. The one that has stayed open is run by a creepy little character. So I now let the trade paperbacks accumulate on the shelf and then go on a binge. In the 1970's I watched Marvel water down its "flagship" title Amazing Spider-man by adding "Spectacular" & then "Web" in the 1980's. Stories now flowed sideways making you buy issues you normally did not want.

I'm just glad that DC Comics has a more altruistic approach and does not create these cross-overs out of pure greed. (hm?) This doesn't make reading them in collected releases any less easy. You can go to the website "Collected Editions" and get a list of properly sequenced individual titles that is a mile long. I find this can get very annoying when reading on the throne. So I just went by the following TPB order;

Note: Not required but still enjoyable.
> The Flash: Rebirth - (2009-10)
> Flash Vol. 1: The Dastardly Death of the Rogues! - (2010-11)

> The Flash Vol. 2: - The Road to Flashpoint (2011)
> Flashpoint - (2011)
> Flashpoint: Batman - (2011)
> Flashpoint: Wonder Woman - (2011)
> Flashpoint: Superman - (2011)
> Flashpoint: Green Lantern - (2011)
> Flashpoint: The Flash - (2011)

** Call me redundant but you know this tale was released on DVD as "Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox" in the summer of 2013? I enjoyed it and felt that it enhanced the overall story. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

The first 1/2 of this book involves Batman and Nightwing. The second half is filler, which I do recognize as part of the Flashpoint storyline but has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with Batman--hence, the cover and title is false advertising and the book should have been 1/2 the price as a result. That being said, the Batman-related pages were very interesting but definitely not required reading for the Flashpoint story.

I don't really know what the editors at DC had in mind when the put this collection together.... The book is marketed and sold as Batman's tale in the Flashpoint story line, but it collects a bunch of other titles from the series. Following the Batman story is Deadman and the Flying Grayons, Deathstroke and the Curse of the Ravager, and finally Secret Seven. Normally, I wouldn't have a problem with this, but the cover makes no mention of the other stories, which are mediocre at best. I'm guessing these stories were just lumped in there as they wouldn't have sold by themselves, and also to justify charging 17.99. I bought this title solely for the Batman title, but got saddled with all the "fat" that got added in. So, it's safe to say that I feel like I overpaid for one great story of Batman.

This is a great idea. The first thing I thought after reading flashpoint was "I want mini storys now" and here they are. The batman one was sweet. Great surprises and twists, its great to see batman in a different light. What if Bruce died instead of his parents? It's a great story that will keep you on your feet.
The second one has dick Grayson, dr fate and dead man. Great story with good art. I don't want to spoil the end but I expetialy liked this one.
The third is with death stroke, but instead of an assasian he's a ruthless pirate in search of his daughter. This story is really good and my favorite of them all.
The last story was a bit of a downer. It was just boring for me I didn't really enjoy it. But I'm sure if I was into that story more I would have liked it more.
So in the end a great book with great stories. Totolly worth every cent. Defentitly a need to read for any comic book geek.
