5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent graphics and very fun !
This game is a blast to play and looks great! It takes the first game and greatly improves it. Be warned , you'll need a pretty good video card to make this game really shine. ( I'm running a BFG 7800GS 256mg, game graphics set to max. I'm also using a Saitek Cyborg Gold joystick. ) Cars control very well. The physics is not so realistic as to diminish the fun factor...

1.0 out of 5 stars Great but flawed
This could be a great game. Unfortunately, its attempt to 'randomize' gameplay makes it amazingly frustrating.

Hitting a small rubber cone, for example, either rewards you with nitro or takes you completely out of contention. No rhyme or reason.

The physics is not so realistic as to diminish the fun factor. Smashing up your car does not greatly affect the drivability. Your car can be ready to fall apart and you are still able to control it. ( except for the demolition derbies, losing a wheel or 2 does make it harder to control ). There is a much better selection of tracks & cars compared to the first one. The cars & tracks are set up to allow for a much greater speed as well. The game plays more like a race with some demolition derby thrown in. AI is pretty good and the difficulty is not too bad. The mini games can be a little tough. On-line is fun & easy to set up, but dial-up won't work. You have to have DSL. And yes, it does have 5 disks, just like almost every other game released these days. ( like Half-life 2 , Quake 4 , Doom 3 , Call of Duty 2, Farcry ,etc.etc. ) Hopefully soon, DVD's will become the norm, rather that the exception.
If you liked the first one ( but wanted faster cars ), this is definitely worth a look. ! (Check Wal-Mart, they just lowered the price to under $20.00 ). This game is a great value at that price !

5.0 out of 5 stars FlatOut 2 rocks!, December 27, 2006

I have played a lot of racing games and many have dissapointed because of the game physics. If they are too realistic, then it isn't fun. If it is too arcade like, then it isn't intense. FlatOut 2 has the perfect balance between the two. The game is loaded with action and requires you to learn the tracks and the feel of the cars to get better. I love the aspect of having to place well in the race but also having a secondary requirement of crashing up other cars and objects on the road. The harder you hit another driver, the more money you make at the end for upgrades. There are also a number of tracks that let you drive though interesting places like through shopping malls, under grandstands and over broken bridges.

Some of the other reviews say you need a good video card and others complain about it not being a good game on a 128MB card. What did you expect. You have to have a decent card. I have a GeForce 6600 with 256MB RAM. I don't play with on the highest resolutions but it still looks great and plays great. It even plays well on my laptop with an ATI X1400 256MB.

As far as the controls go, that is all user preference. Some say you have to have a wheel, others say keyboard is the best. How do you like to play? That is the important question. This game can be played with just about any method. I use a Logitech Gamepad myself and it is great.

This is probably the most fun racing game I have ever played. And the demolition derby is great at a LAN party. I highly recommend this game!

Madd fun! sick, hyper, crisp, amazing, stunning, realistic, funny... just a few words to describe this incredible game. Graphically it's the best racer I've ever seen or played. Driving dynamics are nice and tight

This game is serious fun at a LAN party; unless you take racing serious. This is not a racing simulator, it is a racing mayhem game... The demolition derbies are great fun with a bunch of people in the same room.

It is not so much about winning, but the more spectacular way you win.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game!, November 28, 2010

This is a great racing/crashing game! This game has a lot of racing, but to earn the ultimate bucks, you must cause destruction.

Graphics: Graphics are great! Can go up to 1920 X 1200 32 bit mode

Performance: Runs very fast, Has a lot of object that can be destroyed, and all runs in 1024 X 768 32 bit mode and runs really fast on my 3.2 Ghz desktop, with only 1GB RAM... Also this game will NOT work on laptops, I have tried it even with the lowest resolution!!!

Sound: Not to low quality, ok songs, Great sound effects though

Game play: you can play in the career mode and race, the more you damage objects and wreck other cars then the more cash you get. use those cash to upgrade your car. There are also stunts, like bowling pins, and many more!

Overall: I rated this a 5/5 because it's a very fun game, and isn't slow on my desktop. Fun games to play!
I hate that you have to have 5 disk to install the game, and one disk in the computer to play the game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flatout2 - fun and furious, February 2, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Flat Out 2 (CD-ROM)
Recently purchased Flatout2 for the Mac. Then soon after bought 3 pc copies from Amazon.

This game has great gameplay value with a few caveats.

Learning to drive the cars is fairly basic; one can steer fairly well using only the keyboard. Driving at insane speeds and powersliding around corners while trying to wreck opponents keeps you busy. There's a bunch of debris on the roads that sometimes seems excessive - many times I've had a great race going only to hit a girder and go bouncing into a building and a bad wreck. There's music if one wants it, but personally I'd rather hear the sound of the engines and squealing tires. Wish I could easily import my own mp3s. Graphics are a little dated as this game came out on pc a couple years ago, but that's also what I like about it. You don't need a super system to play this game. I ran everything on high on an intel iMac with smooth framerates. The game still looks pretty good. One does need a dedicated video card with at least 64 megs of ram, I'd recommend 128 or more though.

As the game came out 2 years ago for pc, the next copies I bought at Amazon were pc versions. Picked up 3 copies at $10 a piece - a real bargain. But I can play the mac version with the pc versions on lan, no problem. There's some hiccups playing online though, with dropped games and strange competitor dropouts, where opponents are there then suddenly disappear right before a game begins, even with a fast Roadrunner connection. Playing on lan vs other humans works very well. Just make sure your game is patched to the latest/same version.

There's also demolition derby tracks/arenas in addition to Flatout racing; also some sick humor in seeing how far one can toss the driver through the windshield in various game modes. You may enjoy that segment, to each his own, but I largely ignore the driver tossing games.

Wish list: being able to paint and decal cars ingame; being able to include a few computer (AI) competitors in on-line and lan games; better online experience.

For more 3rd party information about this game, visit www.flatoutjoint.com - some very good modders have added life to the game with custom cars and tracks.

For the money, and for gameplay, and for system requirements, a good solid game. Recommended for all speed demons who enjoy arcade style racing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Action Racing!, October 5, 2008
This review is from: Flat Out 2 (CD-ROM)
Very fun game, Make sure to have a game pad that you can play with while on the computer, using the keyboard will make it less fun. I use a GGE909 PC Recoil Pad. The gameplay and graphics are great. Overall great racer. 4/5
