This book gives an interesting overview of Knuchel's stereoscopic artwork. His images reveal a playful mastery of the venerable three dimensional genre. In the modern era, few artists are active with the stereo camera, and Knuchel must rank among the best and most inventive in the world.Flatlands shows images in various formats, even in mixed formats! The cover image, for instance, is a random dot stereogram presented in an easy to view lenticular format. Within the book are both anaglyph (red/blue) images and stereo pairs. The book includes viewers for both formats. The only other book I have seen of Knuchel's is simply entitled STEREO, and contains only stereo pairs. However, the images are more challenging and mysterious in that book, and I would rate it even higher than Flatlands. However it does not appear to be listed by Amazon. |
