Clarence WhiteFlatpick Collector's Extended, Limited Edition 2CD Set" is a follow up to Sierra's previous "Clarence White33 Acoustic Guitar Instrumentals" CD. An edited single CD version is also available on Sierra (SXCD 6028) but it only contains the songs from the first disc of this special two CD set. This special Collector's Edition has the additional Disc 2 of rare Clarence White guitar instrumentals from tape recordings just discovered recently! On the first disc Clarence is featured on recordings from the spring of 1964, made within weeks of the now famous "Appalachian Swing" sessions. This first disc closes with a 1967 performance of Jimmy Bryant's "Laughing Guitar" and finally, one of Clarence's last recordings before his death in 1973, the alternate studio take of "Alabama Jubilee", which appeared on the long out of print Sierra vinyl LP, "Silver Meteor" which is now available on Sierra (SXCD 6032). The second disc, which is only available in this special Collector's Edition, begins with the original 1970 tapes recorded in true two channel stereo featuring Clarence on lead guitar and Roger Bush on rhythm guitar, during the time Clarence was a member of the Byrds. This is followed by three examples of Clarence's guitar instruction tape that he made for his guitar students. Yes, Clarence did give guitar lessons back in the early 60s. You hear Clarence play a flatpick tune, slowed down, as he picks it note for note then the same tune at "normal" speed. This special limited, second disc closes with instrumental recordings made in Spring of 1973, with the last track being a special surprise giving the listener a glimpse of what is in the works for the future! This 2 CD set is packaged in a special 5Color bronze metallic, Digipak tray case with a resealable protective cover unlike the single disc release which is in a standard plastic jewel case.
