Editorial Reviews

To this present day Public Enemy have maintained their status as musical icons and have even achieved a cross over audience and have headlined festivals. They are still releasing material nearly twenty five years after their debut which shows longevity in any genre of music. Flav's voice is one of the most recognizable in Hip-Hop and coupled with his style and persona, you cannot fail to notice him. This DVD contains rare footage of Flav performing PE hits and solo material which will entertain both the old and new school fans of Hip-Hop.

As a long time Public Enemy fan, I really wanted this to be good. Sadly, it's not. The most legendary hype-man + an unknown hype-man + a DJ = all hype. I only made it about half way through, but after 30 minutes, it was clear this was just going nowhere. The bulk of it was Flav shouting out his parts while the DJ played Public Enemy records. As if that isn't sad enough, at points Flav lip-syncs Chuck D's monologues (not raps, but INTRODUCTORY MONOLOGUES) from said Public Enemy records. The more I watched, the more I found myself wondering why this show even happened, and if Chuck D got paid for playback of his voice through so much of the show. I'm all for a PE reunion, and I like Chuck D solo, but Flavor Flav alone is... sad.
