5.0 out of 5 stars This is the most original book I ever read.
I just finished Flavor of the Week and it's the most unique book I ever read. I read it in two sittings. It's about this guy Cyril who has a crush on this girl Rose, but he's kinda chubby so he doesn't think he has a chance with her. His friend Nick also has a crush on her and Cyril helps Nick out by cooking and letting Nick take the credit for the food. Rose thinks she's...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Book
This book was very good. Although, after reading the first few chapters, I could predict most of what would happen. Cyril, a 16-year-old fat kid who loves to cook and is trying to get into a good cooking institute, has a secret crush on his friend Rose. Rose loves a man who can cook, but Cyril has always hidden his talent of cooking from Rose. When Cyril's best...

Rose thinks she's falling for Nick, but really she's falling for Cyril's cooking. The book's really funny. The only bad part is that it made me want to everything in sight. It has recipes too, which my friend tried and said were awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cyril Live, August 2, 2004
By
This review is from: Flavor Of The Week (Hardcover)
I loved this book. Its not the run-of-the mill love story. Cyril performs wonders in the kitchen but runs a little short in love. He adores his lab partner Rose Mulligan, a spunky hippy chick that doesn't show the same interest. As far as Cyril goes he is just the best guy-friend any girl could have. When Cyril's long-time buddy Nick returns after 3 years from New York, Rose instantly falls for him. Nick thinks there is something mysterious about Rose. After begging, Cyril agrees to help his best-friend woo the love of his life. So Cyril cooks a romantic meal for Nick to take all the glory. Rose and Nick soon become a couple, and everything goes downhill from there. Read this book it is wicked. A little bonus recipe follows every chapter. I recommend this book to romantic chefs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute Love Story with Recipes, September 27, 2003

This review is from: Flavor Of The Week (Hardcover)
This is the most clever book I've seen this year. It's about a teenager in upstate New York who is an incredible cook, and how his amazing talent gets him in trouble with the girl he's in love with. It's really funny and even made me cry a little at the end ...

Plus it's got recipes after each chapter which made me SO hungry. I am in love with Cyril! I feel like I know him. When you're reading this book you can easily picture the movie. You have to get this book! It's so worth it...especially with all the recipes!!...

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Flavor Of The Week (Hardcover)
This book was very good. Although, after reading the first few chapters, I could predict most of what would happen. Cyril, a 16-year-old fat kid who loves to cook and is trying to get into a good cooking institute, has a secret crush on his friend Rose. Rose loves a man who can cook, but Cyril has always hidden his talent of cooking from Rose. When Cyril's best friend,Nick, comes into the picture, Rose and Nick start dating. But, the thing that turns Rose onto Nick is the food that Nick serves, but Cyril has prepared. Rose soon finds out that Cyril cooked the food that was served to her. The ending is interesting, but somewhat predictable. I do recommend this book for kids and teens interested in cooking. This book also has recipes.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Flavor Of The Week (Hardcover)
this was a really interesting book. I felt as if I could practically feel Cyril's depressing self. I loved how the author named the chapter after the recipes Cyril made. It was a very great book and I reccomend it to anyone who likes romantic stories

5.0 out of 5 stars A deliciously romantic novel!, May 15, 2004
This review is from: Flavor Of The Week (Hardcover)
At first glance, Cyril Bartholomew is not your typical romantic hero. At a heavyweight of 240 pounds, one may consider him least likely to be romantic. However, beknownst to everyone but a few very close friends, Cyril is not only a romantic but a prodigious chef. He cooks with ease and passion, amazing all who taste his food. However, Cyril has one problem: Rose. On the surface, Rose Mulligan is Cyril's biology lab partner, and Cyril is one of the closest guy friends that Rose has ever had. However, secretly, Cyril has loved Rose for many years, and would do anything for her, or to get close to her. However, Nick, Cyril's best friend, suddenly returns after his abrupt departure two years ago. Nick, is the opposite of Cyril. Model-hot and charming, Nick is every girl's dream date. Rose, of course, automatically falls for him. Nick, whom also falls for Rose, begs Cyril to help him prepare a special meal for Rose. One thing leads to another, and Cyril must then face the question that will determine the rest of his life: what comes first--enabling success in his own future, or obtaining the girl of his dreams? Filled with passion, love, and cooking magic, this is one book that should be on everyone's bookshelf.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful teenage love story, March 2, 2004
This review is from: Flavor Of The Week (Hardcover)
Cyril Barthalomew is great cook. He's 16 and has a crush on the girl of his dreams but the problem is that he is over weight. Cyril's old best friend moves back into town and steals Rose's heart (Cyril's crush). He helps his friend Nick win over Rose's heart by cooking her delicious meals and telling her its from Nick. Now Cyril must decide whether he can live with living this lie and not telling his best friend in the world the truth. Read this book and find out. It is an excellent book.
Cyril is a magnificent cook who is hiding himself to the world.
Rose is the girl of Cyril's dreams and has a crush on his best friend.
Nick was and is Cyril's best friend whos trying to get Rose and make her fall head over heels in love with him using Cyril's cooking expertise.
this story was set in about the time of now with every in their last year of highschool in a little town with a big cooking college.
The way the author describes each meal Cyril makes is wonderful, it makes me want to eat all of it and I'm a picky eater.
This book is for teens all across the nation who love to hear stories of food and romance. I know I for sure loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, February 9, 2004
This review is from: Flavor Of The Week (Hardcover)
This was a really good book that kept me interested until the very end. It is definitely a good choice if you're fed up with predictable teen novels. It is romantic, funny, and almost everyone can identify with at least one of the characters! My friends all read it, too, and they loved it. The recipes are also really good, too. They are easy and original. I think that any teenage girl would love to read this book.

This is one of the best, most endearing and uplifting books I have read in years! Even though I am an adult (and this is geared at pre-teens) -- it is so well written and unique that I couldn't put it down. I read the entire thing on one plane ride... and now can't wait to try the recipes. The characters are spectacular... and the story is charming, thought-provoking... and just plain fun! Try it... you'll LOVE it.
