Contemplate and Enjoy!, May 7, 2011
This review is from: Flaws (Paperback)
An accomplished author and poet here offers a delightful book of 65 short poems. Some are light, some serious; some are crystal-clear, some richly enigmatic; some are formal, some free, and many in-between. While the perplexities and imperfections of life and love in the real world are never far from view (hence the book's title), the poet's imagination ranges widely indeed. What must it have been like to be Mrs. Sigmund Freud ("Freud's Wife")? Or a proto-whale fifty million years ago, struggling back to the sea ("Whales")? What might it be like to be--or be in love with--an extraterrestrial ("Profile of an Alien"; "My Alien Love")? The tone, throughout, is one heard in much of the very best poetry: reflective, tentative, playful, and humane. Anyone who likes poetry will find much here to contemplate and enjoy.
