Flea's 'instructional' video is much like any other artist attempting to instruct. You have to glean from it what you can until you get up to there level of playing. If you don't have them doing 'what they do' and have everything they play broken down and spoon fed, how do you expect to learn. Analyse and break down and rebuild in your own way and according to your own mind. I love this video, it is a real challenge and insight.

Interestingly, Flea used to play in a school jazz band and play the trumpet which alone suggests that he knows a little more than he lets on. Also, if he's jamming with the Chad then John is in the band; just to point that out to the other reviewer.

First off, I would like to say that I do own this video, and I have watched it 50 gazillion times and my opinion hasn't changed. There is one major reason why I gave it 3 stars and not 5. THE MOVIE IS SUPPOSED TO BE INSTRUCTIONIAL. The most that Flea does that is instructional is shows you his warm-up excercises. Most of it is just the awe of watching young Flea jam. So don't buy this if you want to be instructed. Don't get me wrong, I love Flea infinitly more times than those other two monkeys who reviewed the video, but it isn't instructional. Another reason is that I beleive that this was made before John joined the band, meaning that Flea basically doesn't have any idea what Music Theory is, and can't read a note off of a page. So the video is Flea making cool little jams but nothing really is song material. If you go back and listen to the Uplift Mofo vs. Californication or Blood Sugar you'll catch my drift. Overall, this video is great if you love watching Flea and Chad Jam but don't expect to learn anything.

this video is super informative and I reccomend it to anybody who is tired of the same old methods. it will give you a whole new outlook on the bass and how one of the world's greatest players thinks
