What a great find,

We were just about to leave for a trip to Provence and the Riviera when we stumbled upon this book, just out by that really interesting niche publisher, Little Bookroom. What a great find--engaging text and stunning photographs as well as really useful information. We loved the markets and the restaurants and cafes recommended. A valuable tool for your travels to France or a great and appealing read if you can't get away just yet.

An unusual approach to traveling in France! I cannot wait to take this book when I go to France this fall. This book describes regional flea markets (all over France!)by providing advice on what to find where on what days -- as well as how to bargain without insulting the vendors. Local color, including restaurants and cafe's, are also included. The photos whet the appetite. The format is small enough to stick in a purse (or man-bag.) In sum, the book should help any traveler join the locals in the national past-time of hunting for the bargain, or in my case, the perfect souvenir or gift from France. Great for armchair traveling or trip planning as well - (that is how I have used it so far.)

A gem of a book!,

Both stylish and informative, this high-quality book provides a very useful guide to the French flea markets. The focus is the regular markets which take place either on a weekly or monthly basis (the guide does not address the many once-a-year markets which are less relevant to the traveller or holiday maker). It is small enough to be tucked into a handbag or rucksack, yet pretty enough to be displayed on a coffee table at home. The gorgeous photographs and lively descriptions reflect the colourful and fascinating markets and the people who work there. The author obviously has a true passion for her subject! For a well-researched, well-written and charming guide to "off the beaten path" France, look no further.

Pretty little book but not good as a practical guide,

As a serious flea market browser and frequent traveler, I have to say that this book has all the markings of someone who goes to France occasionally, mainly to Paris, then goes home to wherever they happen to live and think they can write a comprehensive reference book. This book is not at all comprehensive. With the possible exception of Paris and its environs, the listings in this book are so scant that you are much better off doing a little research online if you are serious about finding brocantes (vintage/antique markets) and vide greniers (equivalent to car boots in the UK) for your upcoming trip to France. I mean, only four listings for Provence, an area that teems with brocante markets and such every weekend, not to mention tons of stores and warehouses? Nothing at all for Lyon, the second (or third) biggest city in the country?? Nothing about Lille, the location of a huge braderie every September? I suppose that the book is best suited for people who only want to dream about going to France, rather than for people who might actually go there for serious shopping, or think Paris equals France, period. On second thought, perhaps I should be glad that many people might just follow this book and stay away from my 'hidden treasures' ;)

It was informative but the pictures looked old, as if they had been taken in the 80's. It was informative but I was unsure if it was up to date. It is good for someone touring France on a trip, but if you are just buying it to discover lovely decorating ideas...you won't find it here. Just pictures of random flea market finds that could be found anywhere.

The book looks like a pocket book, very cute. Next thanks giving I will be going to France and I will take this little guide everywhere I go to try to visit every single flea market in France. Not many pictures but lots of address. By the way all the pictures are very well taken I felt I was in one of the Markets.

Great book - I like to know where these markets are - and when they are open - and what they sell/quality etc. When you are travelling often you find you hvae arrived the day before a great market - or it is closed on the day you have chose to go - so I love having the info from this book to go by. The information is thorough, and gives you a lot more about areas than just the markets. Very happy with the purchase

This book dispelled my long term interest in going to the Paris flea markets. What I thought would be an enjoyable experience would in actuality be less then satisfactory. If you don't speak French you're SOL. Thanks for saving me a whole bunch of money!
