Not what I expected,

This review is from: The Fledgling Handbook 101 (House of Night) (Paperback)
The Fledgling Handbook 101 turned out to be a disappointing read. I didn't even finish and passed it off to my son who also is an avid reader of the HON series. The book had a promising start with what you would expect to find in a 'handbook' for a vampyre fledgling. After the initial introduction of what to expect, description of the HON forms (which was interesting), Celebrations, and information about the Dark Daughters/Sons, the book just rambled off into history. I expected more information regarding what would be taught in the classes and daily life in the HON.

I really wish I hadn't spent my money on this book! The idea was interesting...give some insight into the HON world and see what the fledglings actually get. I was not impressed and wish I had waited to the next actual book to get my fix.

Really Boring,
By Mary Stopper (Mt Prospect, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Fledgling Handbook 101 (House of Night) (Paperback)
As an avid House of Night fan, I eagerly awaited the release of this book and bought it the day it became available. What a disappointment! I think I expected it to be tied into the actual House of Night series and characters-unfortunately it wasn't. This book is dull, boring and a waste of money. I had to really push myself to finish it, hoping it would get better as it went along-but it stayed dull & boring right to the end. I'm very disappointed. Save your money.

I feel like I am a fledgling at the House of Night.,

I strongly advise anyone interested in the House of Night series to get this guide! No, it is not a guide into how P.C. and Kristen Cast created the House of Night series like most guide books, this is an actual fledgling handbook! This book goes over everything brought up in the series where Zoey and her friends would make any reference to the handbook. This book goes over various House of Night rituals and even incorporates some real life historical events to correlate with the Casts' dark world. This book is a must have companion for any House of Night fan!

I WISH IT WAS DIFFERENT *sigh*,
This review is from: The Fledgling Handbook 101 (House of Night) (Paperback)
*Spoiler Alert* (although this is better than the book) I'm dissapointed. It was too short and two long at the same time. It was too long because it rambled on and on about history. In school, were are told the same exact info about Pompeii, exect P.C. Cast changed all the people who died into vampires and their consorts. Most of the information was directly from Burned! It was too short because I wish it was packed to it's seams with interesting, relative, and new information, like Bogus to Bubbly: An Insider's Guide to the World of Uglies and The Artemis Fowl Files. I loved these guides and would highly recomend them. Finally, what was the deal with all those runes? It was unrelated to the topic. I love the House of Night series, but I think this fell flat.

A handbook,
By A&D (New York, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Fledgling Handbook 101 (House of Night) (Paperback)
This is just what it says: a handbook. It is not a novel. It can be a bit boring to read, but it is meant to be just a fledling handbook. It just tells you what it is like to be one of the fledlings and go through the halls and learn different skills... it is not entertaining book, but if you are interested in the series and the background, then maybe this is a good purchase for you.

I love how they censored some stuff just so you HAVE to buy Fledgling 201 when it comes out! It was insightful, and cleverly done. I love reading books where vampires aren't sparkling or bloodthirsty 24/7.

for young adult fans,
This review is from: The Fledgling Handbook 101 (House of Night) (Paperback)
Ye who enter the House of Night will be welcomed as a new student and given The Fledgling Handbook 101 as a guide. Veteran vampires understand how difficult the conversion from sunlight to moonlight is. The guide provides the fledgling with an introduction to vampire life as an undead and the societal Maslow Hierarchy of surviving amidst the massive humans. There are treatises on vampire biology and history as the species traces its roots to Lilith. Included is a section on Nightkind Elementology, which is intended to help the newbie survive the terrors of the dark. A bit more experienced Fledglings like Zoey provides words of encouragement as they detail some of their adjustments. Finally a who's who like Sappho and Shekinah provide words of inspiration.
Young adult fans of the series will appreciate the entertaining handbook enhanced by Ms. Doner's colorful drawings as the newcomers are guided on what to expect as their body changes in a puberty-like twist. As Shekinah says: "Within chaos lies opportunity"; not for everybody as this entertaining reference guide is a companion piece to the saga by providing Fledglings and readers with increased opportunity of understand the world as Cast and less chaos. Fun, quick read,

If you're a fan of the series this is a fun addition to read between releases. For $5 I thought it was a pretty good deal. There is a few small stories sprinkled in from 'history' (modified to suit the series) and some photos/drawings. Nothing life shattering, no new details on Z and the gang, but a fun side 'textbook'.

If you are a fan of all the House of Night novels and the novellas then buy this book. The house of night novels always refer to the Fledgling hand book and it was really cool to see and read what exactly they are referring to. This book also gives inside knowledge on specifics that are not explained in the books.
