I'm afraid I have to be devil's advocate here about Flee The Night. I didn't finish it for a number of reasons, not the least of which was I couldn't buy the hero and heroine's relationship from day one. Micah HATES this woman, yet when she calls, he drops everything and comes; there are times he asks himself, "Why am I doing this?"--which the reader is also asking!--yet...

5.0 out of 5 stars Action-filled fun!, June 15, 2005
Ex-CIA operative Lacey Montgomery has been running for years. Someone has been on her tail. But who? She only stops long enough to catch up with her young daughter. All she wants is a normal life for her child, but she wonders if that's even possible.

The National Security Agency has accused her of murder and Lacey is once again on the run. Will the NSA make her face her crimes? Crimes she never committed?

Who can help her uncover the truth in her past? Whose promises can she believe?

Only one name comes to Lacey's mind: Jim Micah, who was once her friend and childhood sweetheart. However, being an ex-Green Beret, Jim is still determined to defend his country in whatever way he can. He plans to turn Lacy over to the authorities for the crimes he believes she committed.

Now with her daughter held hostage, Lacey must work to free her child without getting herself killed. Lacey knows Jim wants to turn her in to the authorities, but she needs Jim's help to save the life of her child.

This action-filled, suspenseful story was a real page-turner. With several characters to keep track of in a story that unfolded piece by piece, wondering how each fit into the big picture kept me glued to the book until the end.

God's fingerprints are all over this story, showing mercy at every turn. Freedom, both spiritual and physical, eludes Lacey. And though she longs for redemption, she also believes she doesn't deserve it.

When Micah comes to her aid, will he be able to shine God's light as they flee the night?

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll LOVE this book!, April 5, 2007

sigh... - one of my absolute favorite fiction heroes! Jim Micah has been crazy about Lacey for as long as he can remember! Right up until the moment that she married his best friend, and beyond. Now, he must choose whether or not to believe the woman who has been accused of killing her husband. Will he follow his heart?

Lacey's been waiting forever for Micah to make a move! That's how she ended up married to his best friend. But now, her daughter has been kidnapped and she is running to the only man she ever really trusted. Will he help? Or has she made a terrible mistake?

And while you're waiting for your copy to arrive, check out Susan May Warren's website for a link to the online novel "Waiting For Dawn" - the prequel to "Flee The Night".

Now on the run...her daughter Emily is missing...who else can she turn to? Can Jim find it in his heart to extend mercy to a former friend? Can he help her without losing his heart or betraying his country? What would God have him do?

Love 2 Read Novels "Sherry" (a small town in Kansas USA) - See all my reviews
Several good reviews of the book have been given so I will just say that I would give this more than 5 stars if I could. What a really good story. If you go to her website you will be linked with a free read called "Waiting for Dawn" and it gives the prequel to Flee the Night. Trust me, you won't be disappointed with this book. When you get it be sure to get Escape to Morning, it will save you an extra trip to the bookstore. Susan May Warren does exceptional work!

5.0 out of 5 stars YET ANOTHER BLOW YOURSELF AWAY TALE BY MRS. WARRREN!!!, May 10, 2005
By
So very different than Mrs. Warren's first series DEEP HAVEN (but just as good!) this one TEAM HOPE takes the reader into the dark world of espionage and Special-Ops teams of the military services. Lacey is a woman so very capable within her own right that the reader enjoys the story just to finally hear about a capable and smart woman who can hold her own in a world of terrorism. Yet her own best friend and her husband's from high school team up together to free her daughter whom Lacey is willing to risk everything for even the safety of her country Micah who fights against his desire to reconnect with her and his love of his country and his deceased high school friend's wife drives him to do crazy things. In all of this God's mercy and transforming peace can bring the reader to feel the spirituality in this book and cherish it too. Once again Mrs. Warren has delivered! Be sure to order ESCAPE TO MORNING when you buy FLEE THE NIGHT because I am sure you will want to read both besides awaiting TEAM HOPE #3 coming out later at an unknown date! LOVED IT!

I love Susan May Warren's books and I really enjoyed this series. I really became interested in Search and Rescue after reading these books and I would recommened them to anyone. Also, the coming of faith and love story and adventure was wonderfully put together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, July 5, 2006
I really wasn't sure about this book, but it was simply wonderful! The plot is gripping and the characters are simply wonderful to dive into. Definitely a must read in Christian suspense!

The backstory is interesting and is added in throughout the book as Lacey and Micah come to grips with their pasts and what they know about each other.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't buy the premise, didn't buy the story, January 13, 2006

Ms. Mentor (Huntington, IN, USA) - See all my reviews
I'm afraid I have to be devil's advocate here about Flee The Night. I didn't finish it for a number of reasons, not the least of which was I couldn't buy the hero and heroine's relationship from day one. Micah HATES this woman, yet when she calls, he drops everything and comes; there are times he asks himself, "Why am I doing this?"--which the reader is also asking!--yet he never gives us a plausible answer. After awhile, a character who keeps acting against his/her own gut instincts, history, and inherent nature, without good reason, just comes across as not knowing what he or she really wants. Someone like that, I won't root for.

And as for the heroine? I couldn't feel anything for her. Maybe it was because the book was so poorly paced that I kept paging backward, then forward again, trying to figure out what--if anything--was really happening from scene to scene. (A lot of times, nothing was.) Maybe it was because the author gives us little slices of angst here and there, but nothing I could latch onto and really feel for.

But most of all, I ended up giving up on this book when the plot went from mildly implausible to plain silly. The most glaring example of this is a scene where heroine is on the run--has to HIDE, mind you--but she needs clothing and shoes. So what does she do? Ask Micah to run somewhere and get her a few things to wear? Tell him her size, lock the door and keep the shades drawn? That's what any normal woman being pursued would do. What does this one do?

She goes shopping. Not at a little hole in the wall store where no one is likely to see her, but at Wal-Mart...where she walks into the store barefoot and they let her in anyway (like that's going to happen?)...and then this odd couple starts playing little flirting games while she's trying on clothes.

To which I can only say, "Huh?"

Sorry, folks. I can't jump on the bandwagon here. Maybe a plot goof that large doesn't bother some people, but to me it's a fatal flaw. I put the book down, and it's not getting picked up again. While some of the images Ms. Warren uses are wonderful, and some of her writing is beautiful, the book as a whole fails.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yet another great book by Warren, April 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have really enjoyed reading this 1st book in Warren's "Team Hope Series". I appreciate the fact that with Warren you know you can pick up her books and get a great adventure/suspense/romance without all of the smutty trash that some author's throw in (which in my opinion means that their story line just isn't good enough to stand on it's own). Instead Warren always weaves a story that keeps you engaged until the very end and actually leaves you wanting more. I would highly recommend this series to everyone, and I routinely do. Nice job! My only regret is that there are only three books in the series. I would love to read more books along this theme because it was so good.
