Great solution for icky problem,

We took in a stray cat and he started peeing on the furniture. It was his way of saying that, while he loved the new home, he wanted to be able to still go outside. Unfortunately (for him and for us), he needed all his immunizations before we could let him go back outside. These blankets were a life and sanity saver (the cat's life, my sanity!) as they perfectly covered the furniture he was fond of staging his protests on. The blankets are nicely absorbent and perfectly waterproof. After any feline protest, I just wash the blanket. Furniture saved, cat still has all his lives and I still have my sanity.

This review is from: Fleece Picnic Blanket with Waterproof Backing
I just read the other product review, and I think it's funny that both of us got these blankets for a similar reason! Short version: this is a decent plastic-backed blanket that can help protect your furniture. Not a 100% solution, but it helps. It isn't fancy, but functional enough for what I needed. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the "carry case" which is basically just a velcro strap that doesn't attach to the blanket anywhere. I immediately lost it... not a big deal, but wanted to mention it in case it is for someone else. If I cared about keeping it I'd probably pin it or sew it or something so that it stays with the blanket.
If you're squeamish, stop here. :) Sorry in advance for the 'ick' factor but I'm hoping it helps someone else. Towards the last month or so of her life, my dog became mostly incontinent. Thank goodness for steam cleaners, but I digress.... She loved her time on the couch with us and we didn't want to deprive her (or us) of that so we started piling up lots of blankets figuring at least they were washable. They didn't always catch everything though, and the thought of dog diapers was even grosser to me than all the laundry/cleaning. The "blankets on top of trash bags" solution worked but wasn't very elegant. I started searching for plastic-backed blankets, but they were all pretty expensive and meant for picnics, with way more 'features' than I needed. I was able to get 2 of these for less than the price of one of the picnic blankets, and was really pleased with how big they are. Two blankets completely covered our fairly large couch. They aren't as nice as say a throw, but they look decent. Related to the other reviewer's comment, my dog actually improved after a few weeks (hooray!) so I only had to wash these a couple of times. I washed them on the gentle cycle and let them air dry and they seem fine, but I can't speak to how durable they are in the washer through more than a couple of washes. |
