The BEST Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Video - My Favorite!,
By StarWitch Stone (Tennessee) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fleetwood Mac in Concert- Mirage Tour '82 (DVD)
I love this video! I had it on VHS and then found this DVD on eBay a while back and bought it. I'm very surprised to hear that it's being sold on Amazon because it is obviously a bootleg. The quality is great in my opinion, but I'm no audio expert. Someone said NOT to turn on the subtitles because they are all wrong, but I suggest that you watch it at least once with the subtitles on, because it is funny as h*ll to see what someone from another country must have thought they were saying in the songs. If you already know all the lyrics, and I'm sure you do, you will get a kick out of reading the subtitles. They really mess it up pretty badly, but the interpretation is hilarious. Overall, I LOVE this DVD. I watch it all the time. Stevie and Lindsay harmonize on "Go Your Own Way" and Stevie gets to wail out parts that are usually Lindsay's to sing, which is awesome, especially when she screams, "another lonely.. another lonely Daaa-aaay!" It ROCKS! What irks me is that the camera goes to Mick right when Stevie is wailing out that last line of the song that I mentioned above. What kind of idiot producer would do that? Nevertheless, this is by far my favorite Stevie video of all time, even though it's actually an FM video. I highly recommend that you get it if you are any kind of fan of Stevie and FM. The Dance is great too, but it is overproduced a bit. You can tell that they had to have everything exactly perfect and that they recorded it a few different times. It's a great "production". Mirage is a great concert! It's like what you would see if you actually went to see a FM concert - not overproduced, not absolutely perfect, but that is what makes it so great. You get to see what FM was really like back in the day. I love you Stevie!

dvd is the '82 concert,

The dvd I purchased is imported from Brazil, I don't know if that has anything to do with the error of the photo on the cover. It is the '82 concert that was originally broadcast on HBO. The dvd I own has excellent visual and sound quality. You'd be amazed at the clarity compared to the old VHS. I own the VHS Tusk Documentary and am still waiting for that to be transferred professionally to dvd.

Like the other people are saying the picture is wrong but as for the concert, it is top notch. Stevie is unlike anything else as far as released DVDs go.
In this one she is all over the stage and truly earns the title "Rock 'n Roll Ballerina" The high kick at the end of Rhiannon is great and the end of SotM is emotionally packed. Christine looks stunning, as always, and has the coolest red boots ever. Her songs are always 'perfect' sounding. Lindsey has a funny little hat on the whole time, it's great. John and Mick are there too, of course and sound great. The only thing that I would say hurts this DVD is if you turn on the sub-titles or captions. Maybe where it was made in Brazil or something but on a few parts they don't match the actual words. If you have the extra cash, buy this DVD, it's worth every penny.

I'm sure that this is the unofficial dvd format copy of the VHS,
which officially released in early 80's. You can find some visual troubles just like old video tapes, especially in the song "Not That Funny". Maybe that resulted from the source video tape, I think. I hope that someday Warner Bros. will release the official edition of this with full dvd quality. But this is a precious material with the memory of young Fleetwood Mac. As a longtime fan of FM, I can say I'm satisfied.

A precious historical document,

From reading over what people say about this concert, I think a lot of us remember this concert from its HBO broadcast back in 1982. I was seven years old at the time, much too young to really understand the emotions at play on stage. I knew I loved this band. I knew I loved these songs. I wasn't equipped with enough life experience to really "get it".
The gripes in other reviews about the sound quality of this DVD are justified. But in truth, who cares. I feel fortunate to own this at all. In truth, I've heard much worse sound on concert videos. And while what this DVD sounds like is unquestionable important, the real treasure lies in watching the band. We've all grown used to the modern-day Fleetwood Mac. A slew of supporting musicians onstage. Modern day, sometimes wonderful renditions of songs that have been around for a quarter century now. Stevie's backup singers doing their cheesy choreography. I love modern day fleetwood mac. But revisiting the Mirage concert made me understand the true fire and passion that initially fueled these songs. Stevie has said in interviews that it's easy for her to slip back into the character of her songs. To feel exactly how she felt when she wrote the songs thirty years ago. That's what makes a Stevie Nicks concert so great in 2007. But in this video, the band isn't stepping back into the songs. Watch the faces. Every one is very raw. "Mirage" was a somewhat tepid album, but this tour sparks and brims with all the energy and genuine drama or Rumours. This was no play acting. Watch Lindsey's face as he sneers at Stevie, fresh off her million selling success with Bella Donna. There is no mistaking that true tension was in the air. This was no act. All three lead singers totally rip into "The Chain". There was no going through the motions here. But of course, the shocking highlight is "Sisters of The Moon". Chronologically this concert sets right between the "Stevie Nicks Live In Concert" video and the "Stevie Nicks Live At Red Rocks" video. Stevie tears into the material here with the raw intensity of the Red Rocks show, and of course the highlight is what the fans call the "speaking in tongues" version of "Sisters of The moon". At the song's climax, Stevie is so overwhelmed with emotion the electricity running through her is at its max. This video is on you tube. Watch it. Honestly, this DVD is a must for Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks fans. If only to remember this band before they got a bit more slick and professional. Before they had a million supporting musicians on stage. Raw. Raw. Raw. Oh, how I wish it were still 1982.

Shocking sound quality,
By William (Australia) - See all my reviews

This was released in Australia from Sony and is budget priced. It is still available although seems to be out-of-print in USA now.
I love Fleetwood Mac so I when I saw this in the discount rack, I grabbed it. The first thing I noticed was the poor picture quality (looks like video to DVD) but nothing could prepare me for the awful sound quality which would indicate that the concert probably wasn't recorded too well. I guess being from 1982 may have something to do with it. All of the songs are hard to watch with this awful sound quality. When you compare it to the brilliant Fleetwood Mac 1997 The Dance concert DVD you will understand my disappointment. The sound quality afforded to the 1997 disc is 100% better. There is one positive to buying this 1982 concert DVD. The bonus features which are about six of Stevie Nicks videos including: Stand back, I can't wait, Talk to me, Leather and lace and Stop Dragging my heart around. I probably would have returned the DVD if it wasn't for this added feature. On a final note, I am not sure why some reviewers have given the DVD such high ratings. Perhaps there is an alternative version of the DVD out there with better sound quality ... although seems unlikely. Perhaps some people don't have good sound systems to fully test these music DVD's and are only hearing the sound through their TV's?

This is unauthorized, and a bootlegged version,
This review is from: Fleetwood Mac in Concert- Mirage Tour '82 (DVD)
I give the concert 5 stars, but none to the DVD...The photo on the cover is from the 1990 "Behind the Mask" lineup (not the same as the "Mirage" lineup), and I'm sure whoever created the cover had no idea what they were looking at. The concert was released on VHS and videodisc but not officially on DVD. I would have to believe those selling this DVD don't have the right to do so, and Fleetwood Mac is not making money from it. I'm sure an individual seller put this on Amazon, as it is not being distributed by Warner Brothers. As it is just a copy of the tape burned on DVD, you could do this yourself, or trade for it online I'm sure. I'm not suggesting these options, as they may be illegal, but it can be viewed on DVD at little or no cost to you.

I purchased the VHS version of the Mirage Live video when it was originally released. I have always wondered why Fleetwood Mac had not released this video in DVD format. I do not know if this was ever offially released by Warner Bros. What concerns me most is the photo on the cover of this DVD. The photo includes Rick Vito and Billy Burnette who joined Fleetwood Mac in 1987 on the Tango in the Night Tour after Lindsey Buckingham left Fleetwood Mac. The Mirage Tour was in 1982 when Lindsey Buckingham as active member. I am curious if anyone knows why this photo was used instead of the original that appeared on the VHS video. The use of this photo concerns me that this may not be an authorixed version of this video.

For those that remember the original HBO concert,
By
This review is from: Fleetwood Mac in Concert- Mirage Tour '82 (DVD)
To be more specific, this is the 90-minute version of the show that was released in 1983 on VHS by RCA-Columbia Home Video. The HBO version was actually less than 60 minutes. Regardless, this is basically a bootleg rip of a VHS copy - good if you need it, otherwise pass if you only have a passing interest. "The Dance" may be more appropriate if you want a better-quality greatest hits collection. Sound and audio quality is no different than if you found one of the original VHS tapes at Goodwill, so you have been warned. And, as many others have previously mentioned, the band line-up on the cover are not period-correct, it's actually the line-up that did the "Tango In The Night" Tour in 1987 - a tour that was also filmed for Showtime, televised the following year.
