BE WARNED....,

This review is from: Fleetwood Mac - Unbroken Chain (DVD)
The fact that it says RIGHT ON THE COVER that this DVD isn't an "authorized" product of Fleetwood Mac, should have tipped me off. I must have either been on drugs or had 20 bucks burning a hole in my pocket when I bought this. There is NO FM music in this DVD, there are several factual inaccuracies, and there are no interviews with anyone really important ( no one closely associated with the band, just a few random people who played with them back in the sixties, and two members of the British fan club, of all things .) The few rare pictures shown of FM in concert and things were of only slight interest, and saved this from a one star rating. SAVE YOUR MONEY !!!! There are MUCH better FM DVD documentaries out there, most of them authorized, like the "Classic Albums" series that features "Rumours".

You must be a fleetwood mac fan from conception to now to fully appreciate the history and makings of the band. If you are looking for rare concert footage etc or are a Buckingham-Nicks era fan only, you will be disappointed. I found Bob Brunning to give conflicting information. He said Mick Fleetwood wanted Stevie first and foremost and yet, to hear it from Mick, Lyndsey and Stevie, they all say the oppposite! I found this to be a rehash of their history that i already knew about. I was hoping to find out 'new' stuff that had never been revealed before...instead, i get conflicting information. The UK Historian and fan club woman (cannot remember her name) seemed to be very against Stevie, which I found surprising. She said Stevie was calculating. So what! Is it wrong to have ambition? I don't know...I am glad I saw it becasue I am a true FM fan from the very beginning to now, but disappointed that it was just pics and a handful of people giving their opinions (hearsay). No concert footage, nothing. so if that is what you were hoping for (like me) then save your money. Nothing dazzling here. Nothing you cannot find for free on the internet.

There are no redeeming qualities that I can mention about this unauthorized dvd. No Fleetwood Mac interviews nor music or concert footage. A few nice photos, big deal. Not worth it.

Unauthorized, Inaccurate and Horrible!,

The negative reviews I've read are right on target. I, like others, bought this DVD because I'm a Fleetwood Mac freak and for the inexpensive price, I thought I'd give it a chance. Just because it's unauthorized doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be awful, right? But, this is so bad that it's almost painful to watch.
It's terribly inaccurate - and for those of us who are huge fans, this DVD is maddening to watch because things are said that simply aren't true. The "experts" have very little connection to Fleetwood Mac - in some cases, they have NO connection to the band. There's no Fleetwood Mac music (I'm sure that's because it's unauthorized) and no film clips, either. There's nothing redeeming about the DVD. I would have rated it a "0", but my review couldn't be posted without giving it at least a "1."

If you are a true Fleetwood Mac fan, do not waste your time or money on this item. It is an unauthorized re-telling of the groups history, with many false statements by unknown people with very little credablity. There is very little to no live footage of the actual group, no interviews; only comman photo's that everyone has already seen. Save your money and buy the Fleetwood Mac Rumours DVD or watch a re-run of VH1's Behind The Music.

WARNING!! Not Authorized by Fleetwood Mac...,

This review is from: Fleetwood Mac - Unbroken Chain (DVD)
When I ordered this DVD through amazon, I had NO IDEA it would be a collection of still photos and U.K. fanclub members talking in a documentary format about the group. What you cannot see on the Amazon item description is that this is an UNAUTHORIZED release meaning no video clips or audio sound bites of the band. The Peter Green era of the 1960's at least had former band members talking about their experience with the group. But if you are a Buckingham-Nicks era fan you will be in for a big disappointment. I thought this DVD would have rare clips from the Mac's midnight special appearance etc. Instead, you get some geeky kids putting "their spin" on what the band was all about. My advice would be to save your money and hope "an authorized documentary will be released in the future.

The best part about the DVD is that we get to see & hear Bob Brunning, a temporary bass guitarist near the beginning of FM. He is well-spoken and speaks well of the band. Other than that, it flies through information you might already know, leaving out many facts and figures, making the documentary both somewhat inaccurate and incomplete. The fact that it is "unauthorized," is probably the reason behind the omission of FM music, though some of the original music is acceptable. I did not find it a complete disappointment, but I also found no reason to cheer.

Not what I thought or hoped for...,

I finished watching this yesterday. It was interesting. I enjoyed the pictures I hadn't seen before. I'm really going to focus on the Buckingham Nicks era as that's what I assume most people would be buying this for (unfortunately; the Blues FM was great but there are documentaries out there about them). There are five people (?) that talk about the band really and they move kind of quickly after Rumours, briefly touching on each album. It seems that it focuses, really, on Stevie after they get into the Rumours-era band, talking about her solo albums and such. "Law and Order" is mentioned, as is "Go Insane" (but not by name). Christine's solo album isn't even mentioned. At one point, the beginning of the 80s, I think, they play footage of random bands. The beginning is pretty good. As mentioned, some of the facts are messed up (Mick choosing Stevie, NOT Lindsey, etc) and some facts seem to be placed in the wrong time (I can't remember a specific example, but the woman from the U.K. Fan Club said something that I thought wasn't right...). It's pretty good, I guess. If you're on the edge about buying it, I wouldn't. I'm sure someone will eventually have pics up from it and it really doesn't give anymore information than you would find in the book "Rumours Exposed". It's all right, though. The only time the band spoke was during footage of an interview at the time of the Inagural reunion. There's no mention of Time or Behind the Mask. The only thing they say is that Stevie hung on a bit longer [than Lindsey]. Really seems to be Stevie-oriented once BN joins the band. And NO music, which doesn't make any sense to me...not even in the picture gallery or opening the DVD.

Don't Bother,
This review is from: Fleetwood Mac - Unbroken Chain (DVD)
This documentary has no Fleetwood Mac music, and no involvment of the key band members. There were several inaccuracies in the information presented. It did include some nice rare photos of the 1975 lineup with Nicks and Buckingham but overall is not really worth the money

The better documentaries are Mick Fleetwood's DVD, "Classic Albums- Rumours" and the VH1 making of "Say You Will". They should put out some of the Mirage and Tusk tour videos that have been long out of print. They have a petition to put a video of their live and promo videos. They're halfway there. |
