Flemish Altruism,
By Matt Jones (Columbia, SC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Flemish Altruism Constituent Parts 1993-1996 (Audio CD)
Flemish Altruism, a collection of the first recordings by the short lived but extremely influential trio A Minor Forest, is a must have CD. With a much harder edge and even more spastic song writing approach than their future releases, Flemish Altruism jumps from harmony to dissonance, from melody to melancholy as abruptly as any group before or since. Andee Connors is phenomenal on drums, not only holding together the complex interplay between bassist Andee Connors and guitarist Erik Hoversten but at many times taking the lead. A Minor Forest is a welcome combination of math rock like Don Caballero with just enough emo thrown in (but not too much, thankfully.)
