3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, November 18, 2010

David Dutch (Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne & Wear, GB) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Flesh and Blood (Paperback)
I was disappointed for after reading the blurb on the front of the book by Mark Billingham I thought that I was in for a gripping and powerfully atmospheric thriller. I was lured into buying a copy to see if Harvey was in the same mould as Tom Cain certainly the reviews on the back cover would indicate he was.

Instead I found a story line that was drawn out - a retired detective inspector cannot leave an unsolved disappearance of a sixteen year old girl many years before alone and then came the release, on licence, of the man he thought had been party to her disappearance but was unable to prove at the time. Haunted by a recurring nightmare he decided to retrace his steps when first trying to solve the mystery and found not only himself but his estranged wife and daughter becoming entwined in the dangerous pursuit of this known killer.

Was the nightmare a clue to the unsolved disappearance or a prophetic vision of what was to become.

At times the storyline was good but personally I did not find it a page turner keeping me awake until I sought to solve the mystery before the end of the story.
