Cheekbones and Chic Bones,
By J. H. Minde "Everything I need is right here" (Boca Raton, Florida and Brooklyn, New York) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Flesh and Bones (Jake Lassiter Mystery) (Paperback)
FLESH AND BONES is the latest and the best of the seven Jake Lassiter novels. In FLESH AND BONES Paul Levine introduces us to, what is for him, a rare bird---a vulnerable, victimized woman. The only problem is that the woman, supermodel Chrissy Bernhardt, is accused of the murder of her own father, shot to death in front of a club full of eyewitnesses.Levine has written a taut, intelligent, entertaining, and wryly humorous psychothriller. Despite the overwhelming evidence of Chrissy's guilt, Jake takes the case and dedicates himself to finding a way out for his client. What transpires is a tale of sordid manipulation, exploitation, lies and incest which is engrossing from the outset and never flags. With FLESH AND BONES not only has Jake Lassiter inherited the mantle of Travis McGee---Paul Levine has joined Scott Turow and John Grisham as one of the best 'legal thriller' authors working today.

I read this book an became an instant Paul Levine fan. Since then I've ordered more of his books. Paul Levine's Jake Lassiter series is witty and extremely entertaining. Couldn't put this book down, and giggled all the while. Loved it.

Not my favorite,

This review is from: FLESH & BONES (The Jake Lassiter Series) (Kindle Edition)
This legal thriller grabbed my interest from the start. The beginning had romance and mystery and I did not want to put it down. Somewhere in the middle of the book I felt like I was reading the same the over and over again. I felt like I was missing something when he was with the family like I had walked in on the middle of story.(I found out after finishing that it was not the first in the series). If I did not hate quiting things this book would have been deleted. I am glad I stuck it through to the end. The end of the book grabbed my interest again mainly because the story line acutally changed up a little. The ending was so good that I am considering reading the second one to seeif Jake and Chrissy continue with their relationship. I also was not a fan of the constant movie trivia and references. I gave it 3 stars based on the beginning and ending. I received acomplimentary copy of the book in exchange for my review.

A Well-Written Novel That Will Keep You Interested,
By
This review is from: FLESH & BONES (The Jake Lassiter Series) (Kindle Edition)
CoverA picture of a skinny blond chic holding a gun ... I'd say it's a pretty literal depiction of the character Chrissy Bernhardt. Plot The story has several twists and turns. Just when I thought I had it figured out another twist would happen. Nobody, except maybe Jake and his family, is who they appear to be. I don't know that this will keep you guessing to the end, but it will definitely keep you interested until the story is over. Main Characters Jake - A former linebacker, who is not fond of quarterbacks (for several reasons) - He is now a lawyer living in south Florida. I got the impression that Jake is ultimately a good guy. He appreciates honesty from his clients and from himself. If he has all the facts, good or bad, then he knows how he needs to handle a situation ... more people should be this way. Chrissy - A model - She seems to fall in love too easily. She is prone to fainting spells and is a little spoiled. Guy - Chrissy's half-brother - Since his father's death, he controls all of the business dealings. Seemingly a nice guy, he agrees to pay for Chrissy's legal defense in the murder of their father. Overall As a mystery-lover, I enjoyed this book. There were several humorous parts in this story, which I appreciated. I believe all mystery-lovers would appreciate this novel ... you should check it out. =)

Murder not as simple as it seems,
By
This review is from: FLESH & BONES (The Jake Lassiter Series) (Kindle Edition)
FLESH & BONES is the seventh Jake Lassiter novel, and the first novel I've read entirely in eBook form. Though Jake witnesses what appears to be a clear case of murder, he is surprisingly able to cast doubt on who was really responsible for the shooter's actions, taking jurors and readers with him.

Hello Jake!,

This review is from: FLESH & BONES (The Jake Lassiter Series) (Kindle Edition)
This was my introduction to Jake Lassiter and I hope it will be a long relationship. Since I am not a fan of football I was afraid there would be a lot of references to the game that I would not understand. There were some references, but all of them helped to move the story forward.I enjoy the setting of the story having vacationed in Miami and the Keys. Family and food seem to be important parts of Jake's life. My mouth was watering a couple of times over the descriptions of Jake's granny's cooking. The story was predictable, but still a fun read and enough mystery held back until the end to keep me going. I will be back to visit Jake Lassiter again. I received a complimentary copy of this book in order to review it. Thank you it was a great gift.

Jake Lassiter,
This review is from: FLESH & BONES (The Jake Lassiter Series) (Kindle Edition)
Flesh & Bones is the first Paul Levine novel I have read, It is the 7th in the Jake Lassiter series. I really enjoyed this mystery novel, and don't feel it was necessary to read previous books in the series.Jack Lassiter, a football player turned Lawyer, is a character you care about. I enjoyed the inner workings of Lassiter's mind as he struggles to defend his client who was seen shooting her father. Levine kept the interest with humor, plot twists and details of court room strategy, water rights and research into 'recovered memories' I received a complimentary copy of Flesh & Bones in exchange for a review.

Too funny!,
This review is from: FLESH & BONES (The Jake Lassiter Series) (Kindle Edition)
I received this book to read and review.Never having read a Paul Levine book I was in for a wonderful surprise. He is funny , sarcastic and very sharp. He grabs you from the beginning with a killing and through twists and turns we get to the end of the book and ....another turn. The characters are well developed , the plot is ingenious and all this with touches of humor. I will now go and read his other books as I am addicted. This is a great book for any time but beware you can not put it down.

Murder mystery Jake Lassiter,
This review is from: FLESH & BONES (The Jake Lassiter Series) (Kindle Edition)
Flesh and Bones is an interesting murder mystery. Not at all like any of the other books out there. Jake Lassiter is no ones hero. He fights for what is right and you can see every man and an everyday lawyer in him. I enjoyed his humility in the story and felt that he brings you along for the ride when unraveling the "truths". His "damsel in distress" is also an unusual character. She is a model who in the first few pages shoots her father. This is no spoiler because after that point everything else because under suspicion and the truths are revealed slowly and painfully. He wraps everything else up with other cast of characters that are interesting in their own right and add different layers to the story. At times I did feel he got wrapped up in too many side stories or colorful comparisons between playing professional football and life but overall enjoyed learning more about each profession. He did his homework on each profession and wrapped his "hero" in the ability to take in everything and everyone around him. His weak part of the story was the love story between the two main characters - he never built a reason other than her beauty that he would be interested in her. For a guy whose is so well grounded and been through so many details doesn't seem that would be reason enough for him to actually "fall" for her type. the book was an interesting read and I look forward to reading the next chapter in Jake Lassiter's trials and tribulations...
