I didn't like the novel at all. It'S full of "empty promises" regarding the plot, the romance and the sex scences but in the end I was pretty disappointed in everything. I like to read PNR a lot but this one was a real waste of money.

4.0 out of 5 stars a highly charged, erotic novel, March 28, 2007

Devyn Quinn lures readers in with her highly charged, erotic novel, Flesh and the Devil.

Brendan is a detective on the vice squad, investigating such crimes as prostitution and drug dealing. When he goes on his latest case, he never suspects the dark underworld he will be sucked into unwittingly.

His current job trying to bust a prostitution ring leads the sexy, sultry Liadan into his life. She is a presumed "lady of the night" he is trying to arrest when she gets the better of him during their "transaction." In spite of the conflict caused by their opposing careers, Brendan is drawn to the mysterious woman for some unknown reason. This attraction finds him planning a future rendezvous with Liadan that rocks his world.

One thing leads to another and suddenly these two star crossed lovers find themselves wrapped up in a passionate affair neither can ignore. For Liadan is a different kind of lady of the night, a vampire to be exact and she is trapped in a situation she cannot escape. She is imprisoned by the incredibly powerful and horrendously evil Auguste and only Brendan, in his blood, holds the key to breaking Auguste's hold over Liadan forever. Will the overwhelming attraction between Brendan and Liadan be enough to break the spell?

This is one amazingly hot and sexy tale! Ms. Quinn has woven a captivating story in more ways than one that readers of sensual paranormal romance will love. Brendan and Liadan's affair starts with sexual attraction that ignites their hearts and souls. The two of them are unable to resist each other and soon find out their feelings have destined them for greater things. Their passion burns strong and bright, scorching the pages as readers speed through the book to find out where this will lead.

Auguste is a truly horrific villain one will love to hate. His plans will not be thwarted for anything and he will fight to the death to gain even more power. The plot is strong as secrets are revealed and fate intervenes, with an interesting concept for the vampire and magical worlds. How these are woven into the story and Brendan and Liadan's lives will fascinate. Events unfold in a slow and steady pace, building up to an explosive final confrontation, much like a roller coaster moves along until reaching the peak of that big hill, plummeting down fast and furious, making for an exhilarating ride. This is a fascinating story that is not for the faint of heart.

The sex scenes are hot hot hot and guaranteed to make readers need an ice cold shower, or a very willing partner, to relieve the building sexual tension. However, readers should keep in mind that there are some extremely graphic sex scenes, featuring dominance/submission with bondage that will likely offend sensitive readers.

In short, if readers want a hot and sexy erotica story that is not lacking in adventure, mystery, and magic, then they can't go wrong with Flesh and the Devil by Devyn Quinn.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love her style!, May 28, 2007

This is a fantastic book, as much for the sexy characters and exciting plot as for the almost lyrical writing style of the author. Devyn Quinn has such an amazing way with words--her scenes absolutely sing when you read them. There are a lot of vampire romances out there right now, some more erotic than others, but I can guarantee none will affect you like this one from Ms. Quinn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guaranteed to scorch you!, November 28, 2007
Falling for a woman with secrets is more dangerous than undercover Vice Brenden Wallace could ever expect. It all started with Brenden's investigation of the escort service Exotic Jewels, and trying to bust them for prostitution. The plan backfired when Liadan blew his cover, ...only to blow his mind later that night under the covers!

Liadan was a creature of the night, vampyr if you will. She could not resist the spark she saw within Brenden and left her mark upon his neck. She wanted to be Brenden's one and only but when her body and soul belonged to something else, something evil, it was just not possible.

Auguste Maximilan was the owner of Liadan and now Brenden. Only the power of the Ancient Wyr's hidden inside Brenden and his sister Dani, could even stand a chance against Auguste. Can love win against the forces of evil? Or will all be lost into a dark void?

Devyn Quinn's book Flesh and the Devil is phenomenal! The warning label on the back cover tells the reader that this is a really HOT book and it is exactly that, HOT! The characters were very life like and the storyline was easy to follow allowing the reader to escape into a whole other world. The erotic scenes defined the word erotic, at some point I expected the pages to go up in flames. This book is sure to heat you up on a cold night. 5 Hearts

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Erotic Thrill Ride, November 11, 2008
By
LeaF (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
Brendan Wallace is sitting in a hotel room, his wrists are bound at the back of the chair with silk scarf. A beautiful and exotic woman from an escort service is in the room with him. Brendan is walking a fine line because while living a sexual fantasy, he is also an undercover vice officer working to expose a prostitution ring. Brendan wants desperately to taste the forbidden but knows he cannot cross the line because he has a job to do.

The woman begins a careful erotic seduction and vivid carnal dreams swirl through Brendan's mind, he tries to keep control as money has to change hands if he and his partners (who are filming the scene in an adjacent room) are going to make the arrest. After a series of seductive, suggestive whispers, the woman pierces Brendan with a clever sharp-tongued barb and leaves the hotel room. The suspect has made him as a cop and played him like a fiddle.

Later, Brendan sits alone at a bar drowning his sorrows in alcohol and we learn that he is newly divorced and his ex-wife Jenna is pregnant and about to remarry. Brendan hasn't had sex in a year; he is lonely and has no personal life. He is new on the vice squad and now has to face the brunt of jokes because the prostitute made him as an officer. However, the blue eyed woman is haunting him, he wants her in the worst way but knows it is forbidden. Brendan pulls her scented red silk scarf out of his pocket and the perfume heightens his sensual daydream, then he hears a soft voice with a slight European accent. Brendan looks up from his musings and she is there.

Brendan becomes acquainted with Líadán Niamh, a woman who he should reject but cannot. Líadán embodies every fantasy Brendan has ever dreamt of in a woman. Aside from her beauty, she is intelligent and sexually adventuresome taking him to new heights of arousal and fulfillment. Oh, and Líadán bites.

I initially thought Ms. Quinn had written Brendan as a sexual submissive in this book, however it was quite the opposite. Brendan proves to be an incredibly strong Alpha male protagonist as his relationship with Líadán intensifies and the plot progresses.

Líadán is a complex character. Kidnapped from her little farm in Hungary centuries earlier by Auguste Maximilian, a depraved psychopath, she is eventually turned into a vampyr and enslaved by him. Auguste has to be one of the most vile, sadistic vampyr antagonists I've read in a paranormal romance. His minions are enslaved through fear and dark magic. He feeds on torturing, terrorizing and murdering young women.

When the mutilated bodies of women begin to show up in Brendan's town, he and his colleagues are ordered to investigate the killings.

Through his involvement with Líadán, Brendan is ensnared in a web of betrayal and intrigue that could ultimately cost both their lives. The plot of this story is full of twists and turns. My knuckles were white gripping the book at times and I could hear myself saying, "no don't go there", "don't do that". lol

Brendan has a sister Danika (Dani) who is gifted with special powers as a witch and plays a pivotal role in the storyline. Dani is an awesome character and I understand she is the heroine of Ms. Quinn's forthcoming novel "Man After Midnight", I am eagerly looking forward to the read.

Flesh and the Devil is a darkly erotic, exciting and at the same time frightening novel. There is one scene in the book that involves the slaughter of a domestic animal that I found horrifying, because of who I am. But again, it is written in keeping with the nature of these vampyr creatures. I have to say that the climax of this book is absolutely spectacular and thrilling.

If you like your paranormal reads on the darker side that gets your heart pumping and blood flowing I highly recommend "Flesh and the Devil".

5.0 out of 5 stars entertaining erotic supernatural police procedural romance, April 21, 2007
Vice Squad detective Brendan Wallace is working undercover trying to bust up the Exotic Jewels' prostitute ring. He calls the company and they send him sexy Liadan Niamh, as his lady of the night. However, instead of busting her, she somehow outs him as a cop before leaving him in knots. Recently divorced Brendan cannot forget the sultry siren and tries to set up a second tryst with her.

He soon learns how Liadan got the better of him when he realizes she truly is a lady of the night. She is a vampire. However, in spite of her attraction to the cop, she knows for his safety she needs to forget him; but she cannot and he will not let her; besides his desire for her there are dead females all over town with all the clues pointing towards Liadan. Concentrating on his love for her while thinking how his sister for years insisted there is magic in their blood; Brendan tries to help free his beloved from malevolent Auguste, who he believes is the serial killer.

This erotic supernatural police procedural romance hooks the sub-genre audience from the opening scene when Liadan leaves Brendan tied to a chair with the message to see her on his time not cop time and never unties the bonds of the reader until the climax. That opening encounter sets the relationship between two likable full blooded (even when she has not dined) protagonists falling into a taboo love for one another. The elements from the police procedural, romance and fantasy blend nicely together so that fans will appreciate the ties between the FLESH AND THE DEVIL.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flesh and the Devil, October 30, 2007
Brenden Wallace is a walking and talking disaster. Recently divorced,
he works nights as a vice cop and spends his days sleeping. No social
life to speak of, he smokes and drinks and doesn't take care of his
self. One night, while on a sting investigating an escort service,
Brenden finds himself outwitted by a beautiful and enchanting woman he
thinks is a prostitute. Nothing could be further from the truth if
the erotic bite she gave him is any indication of her lifestyle. With
just one encounter, Brenden knows that he has to see Liadan again.
Now if only he can find her.

Liadan Niamh is a vampire under the control of her maker. Originally
a farm girl from Hungary, she has no choice but to do the bidding of
her master, a killer named Auguste who thrives on the control he has
over her. Anytime she gets close to anyone, he thwarts her by harming
them. Even though Brenden thought she was a hooker, Liadan can't stop
thinking about him. She knows the repercussions of falling in love;
Auguste has shown her that many times in the hundreds of years since
he turned her.

Flesh and the Devil was a great vampire erotica book. I was astounded
at the emotional ties Liadan and Brenden shared and found myself
almost believing the storyline it was so realistic. Unable to set
Flesh and the Devil down, I engulfed it in one sitting and then had to
go back and read it again in case I missed anything. If you are a fan
of a well-written and highly intense vampire romance, Flesh and the
Devil should not be missed.
