This video takes an in-depth look at Fletcher Benton's career. As narrator, Benton guides the viewer through his early days in San Francisco to the present. He talks about his early work, early rejections, and the creative thought process while we watch him working in his studio south of Market Street. As a counterpoint to Benton's personal narrative, George W Neubert, Director of the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery & Sculpture Garden at the University of Nebraska, gives and art historian's perspective of Benton's work-tracing it from the mid fifties to the present, putting into perspective Benton's place among Twentieth Century artists such as Alexander Calder, David Smith, and George Rickey.
