More About the Author

I was born in California and grew up there on the beaches of SoCal where I used to think I would write humorous social commentaries and pithy columns about life between "here and the pier" in Manhattan Beach.

But then I left. I went away to college and then married and moved to the Midwest. Since then I've been in the Midwest and Montana and made the mental transition to life with four seasons with no trouble at all.

In fact, last time I was in MB I looked at the inlaid terrazzo tiles in the sidewalk on the hill leading down to the pier and thought to myself, "Who on earth would put tiles in the sidewalk? It will be so hard to shovel the snow off!"

See?

Despite my beach upbringing, I was the child of transplanted okies and montanans, and my love of cowboys was apparently bred in the bone. The first man I fell in love with was a cowboy. I was five years old -- and I imprinted on him, following him everywhere, like a duck.

So when I started writing romance fiction years later, there was no question that even my CEOs and beach volleyball players and Greek tycoons were, at their heart, cowboy heroes.

McAllister heroes have a strong sense of honor, determination, competence, and a "get it done" attitude. They are more often lone wolves than they are alphas. They go their own way -- until they meet the woman who makes them want to share their life. And a lone wolf who takes on a spouse has to have some alpha in him. She definitely brings it out.

Writing has been a wonderful opportunity for me to expand my horizons, to learn more about things that interest me. It gives me license to satisfy my curiosity and to meet people from all walks of life. I love it. The ideas never seem to dry up. They are everywhere. I'm looking forward to writing a whole lot more.

I'm always glad to hear from readers so stop by my website or blog if you have comments or questions.

4.0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD FOLLOW-UP TO FINN'S TWINS!, December 26, 2001

This review is from: Fletcher'S Baby (Harlequin Presents) (Paperback)
This is a very good follow-up to Finn's Twins! Here we get to find out what happened to Sam Fletcher after Isobel turned him down to marry Finn.
About 7 months after Isobel and Finn got married, Sam's aunt Hattie died and left Sam everything.
Her bed and breakfast Inn and all its furnishings, her Ming vases, her Tiffany glass, her entire collection of Stickley oak, her Grant Wood sketches and her Frank Lloyd Wright elevations.
She also left him three cats -Clark Gable, Errol Flynn and Wallace Berry by name and a dog named Humphrey Bogart and a parakeet named Fred Astaire and an unidentified object simply named Josephine Nolan.
"What?" -- Sam knew who Josephine Nolan was.
Sam had never been in a situation he couldn't handle but when Josie Nolan told Sam that the baby that she was expecting was his he was more than a little shaken.
A Fletcher baby meant one thing to Sam: marriage. It was the logical, sensible, responsible thing to do, wasn't it?
But Josie wanted to marry for love, not logic.
Her false contractions gave Sam some very scary moments, but he could handle it couldn't he?
But how could he get Josie to fall in love with him? It took seeing Isobel and Finn again to help him recognize his own love for Josie and his child.
Very good book and a great duo for enjoyable reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fletcher's Baby by Anne McAllister (Mills & Boon Hardcover), May 17, 2006

(VINE VOICE)
Second book in Anne McAllister's New York! New York! series ... all six books in this series are not to be missed! I recommend reading them in order, although each can be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel as well. Make room on your keeper shelf for the entire series: Finn's Twins, Fletcher's Baby, Gibson's Girl, Rhys's Redemption, The Inconvenient Bride, and Nathan's Child.

Description from the book back cover:

"SHE WILLED ME A WOMAN?" New York City tycoon Sam Fletcher couldn't believe his ears when he heard Great-Aunt Hattie's will! Hattie was eccentric, but she wasn't crazy. She knew he and Josie Nolan had nothing in common. Or so he thought until he discovered Josie was expecting his child! A Fletcher baby meant one thing to Sam - marriage. It was the logical, sensible, responsible thing to do. But Josie said no. She was determined to marry for love, not logic. The baby's birth was imminent, so Sam needed to change her mind - quick!

3.0 out of 5 stars OK Read, July 16, 2011

Big McAllister fan, but this one wasn't up to her standard.

I wasn't that enamored of the hero. He's a go-getter in business, but in his personal life, I thought him too passive. He tended to avoid, rather than deal, and throughout the story, others had to point the way: his aunt, mom, secretary, ex, etc. Turned me off.

I did like the heroine, especially in the beginning. But her relationship with her ex - both past and present - wasn't comprehensible. And the complications in her pregnancy made the setting claustrophobic.

The supporting characters were the best part. The brief scenes with Izzy & Finn were so alive compared to the rest of the book, that it paled out the lead romance.

However, a less than stellar book by McAllister is still loads better than most authors, and she remains an auto-buy for me. Eight books of her back list (including this one) were released yesterday, and I will eagerly devour all of them.
