5.0 out of 5 stars Innovative and Original!
I had never heard the music of Franco Battiato before this CD--what a revelation! It's a tremendous ALBUM, songs seamlessly woven together as an artistic concept, not just a miscellaneous collection of tunes. I haven't heard such an internally cohesive pop album since Roxy Music's "Avalon" album. This is a great record for those who want something more...

3.0 out of 5 stars A nice CD with well-known songs
The most interesting italian songwriter facing here with some '60 tracks, featuring De Andre' compositions too. Battiato is applying here the results of his long-standing studies and research. Songs like classical 'lied', including an amazing version of R.Stones 'Ruby Tuesday'. Please check also Battiato's 'Come un cammello in una grondaia' to find similar tunes.

I haven't heard such an internally cohesive pop album since Roxy Music's "Avalon" album. This is a great record for those who want something more satisfying than techno-pop or generic electronic music. It's a blend of a string quartet, piano, and synthesizers with Battiato's voice and chorus. Very soothing and enormously satisfying!

5.0 out of 5 stars cover riarrangiate, December 1, 1999
This review is from: Fleurs (Audio CD)

Battiato, with this album, pruposes some old great hits and also an italian folk song (Era de' Maggio)rearranged with a rich classical inspiration. This album was performed live for the Pope.

*excuse me for my broken english*

5.0 out of 5 stars Franco Battiato "Un-Plugged", August 6, 2000
This review is from: Fleurs (Audio CD)
Franco Battiato is one of the greatest musical geniuses that ever lived. For those who doubt Mr. Battiato's genius, this CD will prove it beyond all doubt.

On this CD, Franco Battiato uses his limited voice effectively. He also employs some back-up singers / chorus to add gusto to the recordings. Also, Franco Battiato's usual "techno pop" instrumentation is kept to an absolute minimum; he uses piano, strings, and; where necessary, synthesizers. This CD show- cases a more "reflective" Franco Battiato. One might evn say, an "Unplugged" Franco Battiato.

This CD features Mr. Battiato performing pop standards from the 60's. Franco Battiato's cover of the Rolling Stones' "Ruby Tuesday" is worth the price of this CD alone. I have a feeling that Mr. Battiato really liked "Ruby Tuesday." For those who know his work, you will recall the inference to "Ruby Tuesday" on his "La Voce Del Padrone" LP. The other selections on this CD will take your breathe away. On the final track, "Invito Al Viaggio," Franco Battiato uses a formula that worked for him during the "experimental days;" he starts the song off with a bit of poetry. Just like back in the early 70's, this techniques works especially well for "Invito Al Viaggio."

Franco Battiato is a perpetual student of the humanities. It was only a matter of time before he decided to record covers of the pop standards he really enjoyed. I simply hope that he continues this trend, and maybe perform some covers of Beatles' tunes. Franco Battiato's voice lends itself well for interesting renditions of "Yesterday" and "With a Little Help From My Friends."

I strongly recommend this CD. This is Franco Battiato's greatest work since "La Voce Del Padrone." For those unfamiliar with this great artist, I urge you to purchase some of his recordings. Believe me, you won't be disappointed. As a matter of fact, this CD will be a good starting point. Next, buy " La Voce Del Padrone."

Torna Battiato, il più bravo artista d'Italia, con un album Cover di canzoni del passato. C'è de Andrè, di Giacomo e persino i Rolling con la loro splendida Ruby Tuesday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Impressive !, February 12, 2000
This review is from: Fleurs (Audio CD)
Only 2 songs from Battiato as author in this album, but his arrangements make this CD completely "correct". Music & Lirycs from Rolling Stones, Endrigo, Aznavour, De Andre'. Really fantastic, sad, lovely and sweet.

5.0 out of 5 stars The minimalist's interpretation of good old standards, September 13, 2005

This review is from: Fleurs (Audio CD)
A precious concentrate of songs and ballads from the past, Battiato's Fleurs finds its gold in the fusion of the Author's real enjoyment and the wisely used instrumentation. His voice is as warm and intriguing as usual. This has little to do with his experimental music of the early '70s, but has its own tiny investigation into standards from composers as diverse as De Andre', the Stones, Richard Anthony, Jacques Brel, and the late Sergio Endrigo, among the others. The two Battiato's originals get out at the end, with wit and good taste. Nothing more to be desired if you are in search of something new. American Radio Stations, take note!
